Senior Operations Manager – LA/LB Drayage

Location: Los Angeles / Long Beach, CA Company: Best Bay Trucking Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: Competitive Base Salary + Performance Bonus About the Role Best Bay Trucking is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Manager to help lead the strategy, development, and continued growth of our Los Angeles/Long Beach drayage operation. This is a strategic leadership position, not a day-to-day dispatch role . Our centralized operations team manages daily dispatch execution. We are looking for an experienced LA/LB drayage professional who can take a broader view of the market and help us strengthen our operation through capacity development, industry relationships, operational planning, productivity improvement, and cost management . The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach , strong relationships within the Southern California drayage community, and a proven ability to build and improve large-scale transportation operations. Key Responsibilities Help develop and execute the overall strategy for our LA/LB drayage operation Evaluate current operations and identify opportunities to improve capacity, productivity, efficiency, service, and profitability Build and strengthen our network of owner-operators and strategic carrier partners Develop and maintain strong relationships with port terminals, chassis providers, container yards, warehouses, rail facilities, carriers, and other key industry partners Develop capacity strategies to support new customers, large-volume accounts, and seasonal volume increases Evaluate and improve yard, chassis, equipment, driver, and owner-operator strategies Monitor market conditions, terminal developments, capacity trends, equipment availability, and other changes affecting LA/LB drayage Identify operational bottlenecks and develop practical, scalable solutions Improve asset and capacity utilization while identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary operating costs Work closely with executive leadership, Sales, Customer Service, and centralized Operations to ensure operational capabilities are aligned with business growth Help develop scalable processes and infrastructure capable of supporting significantly higher volumes Support strategic vendor relationships and negotiations Provide senior leadership with market intelligence, operational analysis, and recommendations Identify potential risks and capacity constraints before they impact customers or operations What We’re Looking For 7+ years of drayage/intermodal transportation experience preferred Significant experience in a senior operations, terminal, market, or regional leadership role Deep knowledge of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the Southern California drayage market Strong understanding of port terminals, chassis, container yards, rail ramps, equipment flows, and owner-operator networks Established relationships within the LA/LB transportation and logistics community Proven ability to build and maintain owner-operator and carrier capacity Experience supporting or managing high-volume drayage operations Strong understanding of operational economics, productivity, equipment utilization, capacity costs, and profitability Strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship-management skills Ability to think strategically while still understanding the realities of day-to-day drayage operations Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities A high level of ownership and accountability What Success Looks Like Success in this position goes beyond managing today's freight.
