A Day in the Life The Senior Manufacturing Engineer supports the Stapling product portfolio within Medtronic’s surgical technologies manufacturing organization. This role provides technical leadership for sustaining manufacturing operations, improving product quality and manufacturability, reducing cost, and advancing manufacturing processes for medical device production. The position partners closely with operations, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to support production performance, product lifecycle management, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is based in North Haven, Connecticut and requires onsite work five (5) days per week. Minimal travel is expected. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer provides technical leadership and manufacturing support for multiple product families within the Stapling portfolio. This role is responsible for sustaining manufacturing processes, driving quality and productivity improvements, supporting product and process changes, and leading investigations that ensure reliable product performance and regulatory compliance. Primary Responsibilities: Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support for multiple stapling product families to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production. Lead root cause investigations of manufacturing, quality, and reliability issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Develop and implement product, process, material, and test method changes to improve quality, manufacturability, and operational performance. Execute qualification and validation activities for components, equipment, and manufacturing process changes. Partner with cross-functional teams including Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Research and Development to support production and business objectives. Analyze production, maintenance, and performance data to identify trends, mitigate risks, and improve process capability. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, waste elimination, throughput improvement, and operational excellence. Support change management activities, documentation updates, and regulatory compliance requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a technical field with 4+ years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a technical field with 2+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD in Engineering, Science, or a technical field. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Experience supporting manufacturing operations, process improvement, or product sustainment within a regulated production environment. Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions to resolve manufacturing or product performance issues. Ability to lead cross-functional projects and support multiple priorities in a production environment. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including Business Planning and Control System (BPCS). Experience using Agile software for change development and change management processes. Knowledge of automated or semi-automated inspection systems such as Cognex or Keyence and automated assembly processes.
