Overview of the Role:

  • Lead the end-to-end international inbound logistics network, with a primary focus on the Asia-to-USA trade lane (China, Vietnam, India, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia).
  • Serve as the primary liaison with licensed US customs brokers for all US import entries, ensuring timely and accurate customs clearance.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, HTS classifications, tariff schedules, and trade compliance requirements
  • Partner with Procurement, Operations, Finance, and Inventory Planning teams to align logistics strategy with business objectives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

International Transportation & Ocean Freight

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with ocean carriers, NVOCCs, and international freight forwarders to secure competitive rates and reliable capacity.
  • Oversee booking, documentation, and execution of FCL and LCL ocean shipments, ensuring on-time departure and arrival.
  • Monitor global trade conditions — including port congestion, vessel delays, and geopolitical developments — and proactively develop contingency plans.
  • Manage relationships with freight forwarders and ensure performance against agreed SLAs and KPIs.
  • Coordinate with origin agents and overseas partners to ensure proper cargo handling, documentation accuracy, and timely departure.
  • Perform post entry audits to assure Customs compliance
  • File tooling assists with US Customs
  • Audit/approve ocean bookings to ensure containers are efficient and are being shipped to the correct warehouse based on demand
  • Lead annual offshore freight budgeting process
  • Secure rate quotes for air, ocean and domestic transportation when necessary
  • Ensure continuous import bond remains active by coordinating with Finance department and surety resources
  • Audit/approve/GL code invoices related to offshore logistics/customs payments


US Customs Compliance & Broker Management

  • Ensure accuracy of all import documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, ISF filings, and certificates of origin.
  • Manage duty drawback opportunities, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) utilization, and bonded warehouse operations where applicable.
  • Proactively monitor changes in US trade policy, tariffs (Section 301, AD/CVD), and import regulations, and communicate impacts to leadership.
  • Coordinate with government agencies (CBP, FDA, USDA, etc.) as needed to resolve customs holds, exams, and compliance issues.
  • Assist with new product set up including determining HTS codes, Duty Rates, Freight rates
  • Maintain Woodstream’s HTS product database in conjunction with our customs brokers
  • Manage product flow in and out of bonded warehouse to maximize financial benefit
    • Liaise with 3PL provider to ensure paperwork for bonded warehouse is in compliance with CBP regulations
    • Periodically audit bonded warehouse processes for compliance

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration, Process Improvement & Leadership

  • Track and monitor KPI’s related to international freight and customs execution including performance to budget such as:
    • Actual vs. budget cost center performance
    • On-time vessel arrival & transit time
    • % inventory held in bond
    • Detention & demurrage costs
    • Ocean container average costs by port pairing
    • Customs penalties/discrepancies
  • Improve end to end custom process with help of AI and other tools to reduce manual work.
  • Identify process integration opportunities with internal & external partners to improve performance visibility and optimize work flow.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop logistics team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all logistics and customs processes.
  • Back up others in the Logistics Department
  • Ability to submit to and successfully complete a Federal Background Check for the purpose of obtaining Department of Homeland Security Identification Card that provides for clearance to enter a bonded warehouse site
  • Ability to successfully complete all training and ongoing refresher training in relation to bonded warehousing as required by the Federal Government


Other Functions:

  • Lead special projects as assigned
  • Identify and support implementation of cost reduction projects (Protrack)
  • Regular attendance is required to maintain the functions of the job
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Successful Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience with international logistics, supply chain and/or trade compliance
  • Hands-on experience/training with US Customs Compliance and HTS classification
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
  • Understanding of basic freight terms used in the industry
  • PC experience with MS Office programs, specifically MS Excel and Access
  • Strong Analytical skills
  • Results oriented; ability to think and work independently
  • Capable of managing multiple projects
  • Flexible team player; performs in both leader & follower roles
