AEC Engineering would like to hire an experienced Senior Controls Design Engineer . We are looking for someone capable of having "a seat at the table" in this critical position. The primary function of this position is to design and engineer industrial control panels in AutoCAD while supporting projects from concept through commissioning. This role produces complete engineering packages including panel layouts, wiring schematics, power distribution drawings, network diagrams, and engineered bills of materials. Key Responsibilities Design industrial control panels using AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical. Create panel layouts, wiring schematics, interconnection diagrams and engineered BOMs. Select and specify PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation and networking equipment. Prepare material and labor estimates. Visit customer facilities for site investigations, meetings, startup support and troubleshooting. Collaborate with customers, fabricators, programmers and project managers. Coordinate submittals and provide support to the Procurement Manager, Operations Manager, and Shop Foreman. Assist with commissioning and field support as required. Highlighted Preferred Experience AutoCAD UL 508A control panel design experience strongly preferred. Municipal water and wastewater control system experience preferred. Working knowledge of PLC and HMI platforms with ability to support automation projects. Experience with reading and understanding municipal project bidding plans and specifications. Ability to review fabrication work, conduct panel checkout, and verify compliance with design intent. Requirements Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred. 5+ years of experience in electrical controls, automation, or control panel design. Proficient with AutoCAD and electrical schematics. Strong understanding of NEC, industrial control systems, and electrical design principles. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to thrive in a collaborative small-company culture.
