Senior Diesel Technician - Engine Builder (Detroit, Cat) Curry Transport | Astatula, FL | In-house heavy haul shop | Full-time, on site Curry Transport is a 20+ unit heavy haul and oversize carrier moving heavy commodities on RGN lowboys, flatbeds, and step-decks. Our shop keeps that fleet rolling, and engine work is the center of it. We are looking for a senior technician who builds engines properly, diagnoses from evidence rather than instinct, and takes ownership of a truck from teardown to road test. The core of the job: engines In-frame and out-of-frame overhauls on Detroit Series 60 and DD platforms, Cummins ISX and X15, and Cat C13 and C15 Cylinder kits, liner and sleeve work, main and rod bearings, crank inspection and measurement to published specification Head work, valve jobs, injector and injector cup replacement, cam and roller work Plastigauge, dial indicator, endplay and preload verification, and torque to spec on every fastener, every time Oil coolers, front and rear structures, gasket and seal work done clean on the first pass Break-in procedure, road test, and verification before any unit leaves the yard Everything else a heavy haul fleet demands Electrical diagnosis from schematics: voltage drop testing, harness repair, and methodically isolating intermittent faults Aftertreatment and emissions: DPF, DOC, SCR, EGR, doser, NOx and DEF systems, forced regens, sensor and wiring diagnosis Manual transmissions and differentials: 10, 13, and 18-speed, deep reduction, clutch and driveline, rear end service on 40k and 46k rears Air and foundation brake systems on tractors and multi-axle trailers: S-cams, slack adjusters, air bags, valves, ABS diagnosis, air lines Cooling, charge air, and fuel systems: radiators, fan clutches, lift pumps, high pressure fuel HVAC and A/C diagnosis and repair Trailer work: RGN detachable goosenecks, deck and neck hydraulics, pumps, cylinders, hoses and fittings, wet kits and PTO, king pins, suspensions, wheel ends and bearings, landing gear, ramps, tarp systems, lighting and 7-way wiring Welding and light fabrication on decks, ramps, brackets, and mounts is a strong plus Diagnostics You will run Detroit DiagnosticLink, Cummins INSITE or Guidanz, Cat ET, and general OEM and aftermarket scan tools. Pulling codes and running tests is the baseline. Reading live data and understanding what it is telling you about the engine is the actual skill. Requirements Minimum 10 years hands-on Class 8 heavy duty diesel experience Proven engine building experience on Detroit, Cummins, and Cat. Come ready to walk us through the last three engines you built, what failed, and what you found Comfortable across Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, and Western Star Own hand tools and toolbox. Shop provides specialty tooling, air, lifts, and heavy equipment support Able to read and work from schematics and service manuals Works well in a tight, cohesive shop Valid driver’s license and the ability to road test.
