Senior Diesel Mechanic — Engine Diagnostics & Rebuilds

Genius Consulting is recruiting an experienced Senior Diesel Mechanic on behalf of AMH Transport in Riverside, California. AMH Transport operates a fleet of approximately 21 trucks with Detroit DD15, Cummins, and Volvo D13 engines. We are looking for a mechanic with strong computer diagnostic skills and proven experience performing major engine repairs and rebuilds. The right candidate can take a truck from initial complaint through diagnosis, repair, and final verification with minimal supervision. THE ROLE • Diagnose engine fault codes, performance issues, loss of power, overheating, and starting problems. • Use diagnostic software, live data, service information, and testing equipment to identify the root cause of failures. • Perform major engine repairs, including cylinder heads, head gaskets, injectors, and internal engine components. • Complete engine teardown, inspection, and rebuild or overhaul work following manufacturer specifications. • Troubleshoot fuel, cooling, lubrication, turbocharger, electrical, and engine control systems. • Diagnose emissions and aftertreatment concerns involving DPF, DEF, and SCR systems. • Verify repairs through appropriate testing and document completed work. • Communicate repair needs, parts requirements, and truck readiness to fleet management. • Support other fleet repair and maintenance needs as required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE • Professional experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty truck engines. • Hands-on experience personally performing engine rebuilds or overhauls. • Experience with Detroit DD15, Cummins, or Volvo D13 engines, with experience across multiple platforms strongly preferred. • Ability to use diagnostic software and interpret live data beyond simply reading and clearing fault codes. • Ability to read wiring diagrams and follow manufacturer troubleshooting and repair procedures. • Ability to complete complex repairs independently and explain diagnostic findings clearly. • Reliable attendance, safe work practices, and attention to repair quality. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with Detroit DiagnosticLink, Cummins INSITE, Volvo Premium Tech Tool, and JPRO. • Experience with in-frame and out-of-frame engine overhauls. • Strong electrical troubleshooting and aftertreatment diagnostic skills. • Previous responsibility for keeping a trucking fleet operational.
