Our client, a well-established international freight forwarder and customs broker, is seeking a Senior Customs Specialist to join its Chicago team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced customs professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working with customers, brokers, and government agencies to ensure timely and compliant import processing. The successful candidate will play a critical role in preparing customs entries, maintaining compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and delivering exceptional service throughout the import process. Key Responsibilities Prepare and submit customs entries accurately and efficiently through ABI. Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and supporting documentation for completeness and compliance. Classify imported merchandise using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and ensure proper valuation and duty assessment. Coordinate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Participating Government Agencies (PGAs), customers, and internal teams to facilitate timely clearance. Monitor shipment status and proactively communicate updates, delays, and exceptions to customers. Resolve entry discrepancies and customs-related issues while maintaining compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate shipment records and documentation within the company's operating system. Stay current on changes to customs regulations, tariffs, and trade compliance requirements. Build strong relationships with customers, carriers, and internal operations teams to ensure a seamless import experience. Qualifications Experience preparing and processing U.S. customs entries within a customs brokerage or international freight forwarding environment. Strong understanding of CBP regulations, HTS classification, and import documentation. Experience using ABI and customs brokerage software. Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple entries simultaneously. Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
