Summary: Responsible for sourcing, onboarding, and managing a strong carrier network to support fast-paced transportation operations. This role focuses on securing capacity at competitive rates, leveraging market insights to optimize pricing, and ensuring reliable, on-time service delivery.


Key responsibilities include negotiating rates, covering loads, maintaining carrier relationships, and collaborating with Compliance, Sales, and Operations teams to meet service, safety, and regulatory standards. The role also supports issue resolution, tracks market trends, and maintains accurate data within the TMS to drive operational efficiency and KPI performance.

 

What You’ll Do

Carrier Sourcing & Procurement

  • Source, evaluate, and onboard carriers aligned to lane, capacity, and customer requirements
  • Develop and maintain a reliable carrier network using proactive outreach and market research
  • Maintain accurate carrier data and documentation within the Transportation Management System (TMS)

Rate Management & Market Insight

  • Negotiate competitive rates to optimize transportation costs and margins
  • Monitor market capacity, pricing trends, and conditions to inform sourcing decisions
  • Provide rate guidance to support quoting and operational planning
  • Review and validate accessorial charges in line with carrier agreements

Load Coverage & Execution

  • Secure capacity and ensure timely coverage of assigned loads in a high-volume environment
  • Coordinate shipment details, confirming carrier availability and service requirements
  • Oversee shipment execution from pickup through delivery, resolving issues and managing changes as needed
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all load-related information and documentation

Carrier Relationship Management

  • Serve as primary point of contact for carriers, fostering strong, long-term partnerships
  • Maintain consistent communication to support service reliability and performance
  • Address service issues or disputes in a timely and professional manner

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Partner with Compliance to ensure carriers meet safety, insurance, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain complete and accurate records within compliance systems
  • Identify potential risks and take proactive steps to mitigate service disruptions

Operational Support & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Operations, Customer Experience, and Sales to support service delivery and resolve escalations
  • Provide carrier solutions and market insights to internal stakeholders
  • Ensure timely updates of load status, carrier confirmations, and milestones in system
  • Provide backup support for carrier setup and related operational activities

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor performance against KPIs and service expectations
  • Identify opportunities to improve sourcing strategies, cost efficiency, and workflows
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in transportation sourcing, carrier procurement, or logistics within Canada
  • Proven track record of negotiating trucking rates and managing carrier relationships
  • Strong understanding of Canadian transportation markets, lane pricing, and capacity dynamics
  • Advanced Excel skills for rate analysis, lane costing, and supplier benchmarking
  • Experience working with TMS or ERP systems
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial mindset with a focus on cost savings, performance, and network optimization

 

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field
  • SCMP / SCMA or similar designation
  • Knowledge of:
    • Canadian trucking capacity trends
    • Fuel surcharge structures
    • Regional lane pricing and seasonality

Requirements:   

  • Post‑secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field
  • 3–6 years of experience in transportation sourcing, carrier procurement, or logistics within Canada
  • Proven experience negotiating domestic trucking rates and managing carrier relationships
  • Strong understanding of Canadian transportation markets and lane‑based pricing
  • Solid Excel skills for rate analysis, lane costing, and supplier comparisons
  • Experience with TMS or ERP systems is an asset
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship‑building skills
  • Detail‑oriented, well‑organized, and able to manage multiple sourcing initiatives
  • Commercially minded and cost‑focused
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)

 Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related discipline

    • 4+ years of experience in Canadian transportation sourcing or logistics procurement

    • Professional designation (SCMP, PMAC/SCMA) considered an asset
      Knowledge of:

      • Canadian trucking capacity trends

      • Fuel surcharge mechanisms

      • Regional lane pricing and seasonality

 

Salary Range: $95,029 - $118,786

This salary range is presented in compliance with applicable pay transparency laws and reflects the range we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined based on relevant experience, education, skills, and alignment with internal compensation practices.
