Summary As the Senior Buyer you will be responsible for performing planning and procurement activities for domestic & international buys which includes but not limited to: price negotiations, lead times, storage costs, transportation costs, tariff & tax costs, inventory & replenishment planning, place purchase orders to satisfy demand, maintain all purchase order information (up-to- date), expedite and resolve issues as needed. You should be a highly organized, accurate and detail-oriented person, who possesses a strong work ethic, who is also comfortable handling multiple, rapidly changing and, sometimes, conflicting priorities. Senior Buyer Job Responsibilities: Strategic Purchasing: Determines inventory levels to support sales/customer needs, through planning and inventory analysis. Negotiate contracts that specify price, payment terms and delivery schedules to meet production needs. Manage suppliers to ensure specifications and costs are met. Maintain existing supplier relationships, identify and qualify new sources. Evaluate sources of supply for most economical purchases (including all economic factors such as transportation, tax & duty impact, time value of money, process yields, etc) Establish contingency plans in case of a market disruption that would impact primary suppliers Solicit, present and evaluate competitive quotations. Evaluate potential suppliers based on their product quality, cost, delivery terms and customer service. Initiates purchase orders based on trends, forecasts, and customer orders for all necessary production materials. Ensure all quality documents are obtained to meet Audit Guidelines & maintain Approved Supplier Program. Production Scheduling: Maintains the production schedule for the Danvers facility and all warehouse locations, reviewing daily to adjust for changes in customer requirements, delay in receiving raw materials, availability of production resources, etc. Advises appropriate parties in the plant and customer service with changes in the schedule. Leads weekly production planning meeting that includes representatives from sales, engineering & service, production, shipping and customer care. Reviews monthly sales forecasts and backlog and adjusts master schedules accordingly. Monitors inventory, production scheduling and vendor relations and proactively knows when to effectively respond or engage contingency plans to prevent disruption to the business, Assist in the resolution of production, quality and/or delivery problems regarding purchasing and manufacturing. Gathers and publishes key information required for the smooth operation of the business. Metric development to demonstrate process accountability, stability and improvement. Inventory Management: Assist in the coordination of physical inventories Oversee the cycle count program including performing counts and recounts as required, reconciling variances, and performing adjusts in the company business system. Review and reconcile negative inventory balances in all sites Influence working culture by implementing best practice supply and flow processes. Initiate, build and maintain solid relationships with key suppliers as well as backup suppliers. Comfortable and adept with using and leveraging ERP systems in a manufacturing environment. Interact and communicate with all levels of management. Oversee the overall data integrity in the company business system SENIOR BUYER QUALIFICATIONS: A BS in materials management or business with up to ten years’ experience in manufacturing, production planning, or a materials control function is desired. Extensive hands-on experience with a computerized production planning system is required. Professional certification by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) is preferred.
