Job Description

Internal Job Title: Senior Buyer

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Job Location: Ottawa, ON

Position Summary

As a Senior Buyer in our Purchasing group, you will be responsible for the procurement of goods and services for a global provider of secure documents and enterprise level system solutions across a range of domains – currency, excise, border security, civil identity, driver and vehicle, lottery and charitable gaming. You’ll work collaboratively across the organization as you procure goods, services and facility related items that meet the needs of the business and requirements related to security, quality and cost.

 

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

  • Partner with internal teams including Engineering, IT, Legal, and Finance to support procurement needs and project execution.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies to support the procurement of required commodities and services.
  • Conduct market research to identify qualified suppliers and evaluate competitive offerings.
  • Lead procurement planning to align with organizational goals and project timelines.

Supplier & Contract Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, reliability, and compliance.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and service-level agreements with vendors.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address issues related to delivery, quality, or contractual obligations.

Compliance & Risk Mitigation

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., data protection, security protocols).
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with supplier reliability, geopolitical factors, and supply chain disruptions.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier communications.
  • Generate reports on procurement metrics, supplier performance, and strategic sourcing outcomes.

Financial Oversight & Cost Management

  • Prepare and manage procurement budgets, ensuring cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses and identify opportunities for savings and process improvements.
  • Track and report on procurement expenditures and financial performance.

 

Qualifications

Education and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics (or similar)
  • CPP or CPSM certification (asset)
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Strategic sourcing and category management
    • Procurement processes and lifecycle
    • Contract negotiation and management
    • Supplier evaluation and performance management
    • Risk management
    • Budgeting and cost control
    • Regulatory and compliance requirements
    • M365, MS Dynamics (or similar)

Experience

  • 10+ years of procurement experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior or strategic procurement role
  • Experience managing complex procurement tasks and vendor relationships
