Purpose of Role

The Senior Buyer is responsible for the strategic sourcing and procurement of a wide range of materials and equipment to support Worley’s project and corporate requirements. This is a full-time position based in Calgary, AB.

This role operates at an advanced level and can lead to complex procurement activities across both engineered and non-engineered scopes. Acting as a Lead Buyer or subject matter expert, the incumbent provides technical guidance, drives procurement strategy execution, and ensures alignment with project objectives, commercial outcomes, and client expectations.

Responsibilities

Procurement Execution & Delivery

  • Lead and manage end-to-end procurement activities for complex packages, including sourcing, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and award
  • Execute procurement for engineered equipment and bulk/materials in line with project specifications and schedules
  • Ensure competitive bidding processes and full compliance with Worley procurement policies and governance
  • Monitor supplier performance, delivery timelines, and contract adherence to mitigate risks

Strategic Procurement & Risk Management

  • Support and contribute to the development and implementation of project and corporate procurement strategies
  • Identify market conditions, supply constraints, and commercial risks, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Provide expert advice on sourcing approaches, vendor selection, and commercial negotiations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices within the procurement function

Project Integration & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, project controls, construction, contracts, and legal teams
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to ensure alignment of procurement activities with project delivery timelines and budgets
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and clients to ensure procurement strategies meet operational and commercial needs

Leadership & Team Guidance

  • Act as Lead Buyer on projects or manage procurement workstreams
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to junior buyers and procurement staff
  • Assign tasks, review deliverables, and support capability development within the team

Leadership & Decision Making

  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and lead procurement activities independently
  • Experience leading project teams and contributing to cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong commercial judgment and risk management capability

Communication & Influence

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and present complex information to management and clients
  • Skilled in preparing reports, presentations, and commercial recommendations
  • May supervise or provide oversight to procurement team members

Qualifications

What you will bring:

Technical and Industry Experience\: 

  • University degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Typically 7+ years of progressive procurement experience, preferably within EPC/EPCM, energy, mining, or infrastructure sectors
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex procurement scopes and high-value contracts
  • Experience with both engineered equipment procurement and bulk/material sourcing
  • Advanced knowledge of procurement systems, tools, and processes
  • Strong understanding of supply market dynamics, sourcing strategies, and commercial contracting
  • Ability to troubleshoot procurement challenges and support others in resolving issues
