Senior Accountant, Inventory & Cost Accounting

Our partner is looking for a Senior Accountant, Inventory & Cost Accounting based in United States. This is a hands-on senior accounting role with end-to-end ownership of inventory and cost accounting across a global supply chain. You will oversee inventory balances, Bills of Materials, standard costs, reconciliations, valuation, and month-end close activities across multiple regions and third-party partners. The role combines detailed accounting expertise with cross-functional collaboration across Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, manufacturers, warehouses, and logistics providers. You will play a key role in ensuring financial records accurately reflect physical inventory and manufacturing activity. Your work will also influence long-range financial planning through standard cost and gross margin modeling. The position offers significant autonomy in a fully remote environment while providing exposure to a growing, internationally operated business. Accountabilities Own end-to-end inventory accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods held internally and through third-party manufacturers and warehouses across the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. Prepare and record monthly inventory transactions in the ERP system, including receipts, transfers, adjustments, and cost of sales. Perform monthly reconciliations between the inventory subledger and general ledger, maintaining complete supporting documentation and reviewer approvals. Support U.S. GAAP inventory valuation, including lower-of-cost-or-net-realizable-value analysis and excess and obsolete inventory reserve assessments. Analyze purchase price, usage, yield, and standard-to-actual variances and recommend appropriate corrective entries. Serve as the primary finance contact for contract manufacturers, warehouses, and logistics providers regarding inventory matters. Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts, review third-party inventory reports and confirmations, and reconcile external records to internal inventory balances. Investigate, document, and resolve inventory discrepancies while maintaining appropriate evidence of review and approval. Create, maintain, and control Bills of Materials within the ERP, including defined processes for reviewing and approving changes. Reconcile BOM unit costs with inventory subledger balances and supporting documentation such as supplier invoices, manufacturer quotes, and purchase orders. Maintain standard costs and perform periodic cost roll-ups and inventory revaluations as underlying inputs and pricing change. Develop material, conversion, manufacturing, and scale-related cost assumptions for long-range five-year financial planning. Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance leadership to model cost of goods sold and gross margin scenarios. Document inventory processes and internal controls and help develop scalable controls as the business grows. Prepare inventory schedules and audit support, respond to external auditor requests, and improve overall audit readiness. Identify and implement process improvements that increase accounting accuracy, timeliness, efficiency, and control. Support broader accounting activities and ad-hoc projects, including special analyses, account reconciliations, technical accounting research, financing initiatives, audits, reporting, and non-inventory close activities as needed. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of accounting experience with significant responsibility for inventory and cost accounting.
