Job Summary

A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Security Operations Centre, Information Technology Services (IT Services), the Security Operations Analyst is part of a dynamic team responsible to run cybersecurity operations for Queen's digital environment, to investigate cyber risk and to facilitate remediation of identified vulnerabilities across the institution. This position analyzes cybersecurity events, threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, and incidents. This position provides regular maintenance of audit applications and troubleshoots and resolves issues with security systems integration. This position updates and maintains security user access controls. This position also updates documentation for service solutions, security requirements, as well as policies and procedures. Maintaining strong collaborative working relationships with IT Services' teams and clients across the institution, the Analyst also identifies ways to reduce risk and documents the remediation options regarding acceptance or mitigation of risk scenarios. This position analyzes cybersecurity events, threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, and incidents. This position provides regular maintenance of audit applications and troubleshoots and resolves issues with security systems integration. This position updates and maintains security user access controls. This position also updates documentation for service solutions, security requirements, as well as policies and procedures.

Job Description

What you will do
• Analyzes cybersecurity events, threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, and incidents to determine the root cause.
• Assists with regular maintenance of audit applications including configuring and monitoring.
• Troubleshoots and resolves issues with systems integrations.
• Updates and maintains security monitoring use cases, systems, and defined user access controls.
• Assists with implementing information security and risk management solutions.
• Updates and maintains documentation for service solutions, code, configurations, specifications, security requirements, as well as policies and procedures.
• Participates in the development of application security operational capabilities, activities, and compliance requirements.
• Analyzes new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality with existing applications environments.

Required Education
• Three-year Community College Diploma or Three-Year Bachelor Degree, or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience
• More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Manage own work and may train and review the work of casual employees, work study students and/or volunteers, to see commitments through to completion.
• Contribute to setting work priorities and direction, supporting the team in achieving goals and objectives.
• Participate in project team meetings and develop individual project plans.
• Lead procedural or technological change within a unit.
• Identify new problems and seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.
• Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
• Draw logical conclusions and provides opinions and recommendations.
