Security Officer - Courier - Part-time

The primary responsibility of the part-time Security Officer (Courier Detail) is the secure transportation of company valuables, confidential materials, and other assigned assets between company locations throughout the Metro Detroit area. This position requires maintaining strict security protocols, ensuring chain-of-custody compliance, and safeguarding company property during transit. In addition to courier responsibilities, the Security Officer may be assigned to store security duties as business needs require. These duties include monitoring store activity, deterring theft and suspicious behavior, providing exceptional customer service, and responding appropriately to security incidents. The Security Officer works closely with store management to ensure compliance with company security policies and procedures while contributing to a safe and welcoming shopping environment for customers and employees. This position is primarily based at our West Bloomfield, MI with the flexibility to support our Troy and Novi locations as needed. Essential Functions Ability to safely transport valuables, confidential materials, and other assigned assets while maintaining strict chain-of-custody procedures. Lift, carry, push, and pull secured containers, shipping cases, and inventory weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 70 pounds with assistance. Stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods during pickups, deliveries, inspections, and security monitoring activities. Sit and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods, including frequent travel. Enter and exit vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday. Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs while handling shipments and conducting security procedures. Safely carry, handle, and, when authorized, deploy defensive equipment and firearms in accordance with Tapper’s policy and applicable law. Maintain situational awareness and respond appropriately to potential security threats or emergency situations. Handle small, high-value items requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail. Visually inspect merchandise, documents, vehicles, and security equipment. Communicate effectively in person and through telephone, radio, and other communication devices. Work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions. Work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended shifts as business needs require. Meet and maintain all applicable licensing, firearms qualification, and security certification requirements. (MCOLES, CPL) Willingness to work security detail in retail store environment as needed Qualifications Law enforcement officers with a minimum of 10 years of active service experience or retired in good standing and certified by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). Current Concealed Pistol License (CPL) required. Current or former sworn law enforcement officers (police officers, sheriff's deputies, or state troopers) with a minimum of 10 years of service. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to meet company insurance requirements. Must possess and maintain a reliable personal vehicle suitable for daily business use. Proof of current vehicle registration, insurance meeting company minimum coverage requirements, and satisfactory vehicle condition. Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation.
