Job Summary The Seafood Buyer is responsible for the procurement & management of assigned seafood categories to maintain strong in-stock conditions, competitive pricing, product quality & healthy inventory turns. This role manages vendor relationships, purchasing, inventory, pricing & product performance while partnering with warehouse operations, logistics & sales teams to maintain product flow, minimize shrink & support overall profitability. Key Responsibilities Manage purchasing for assigned seafood categories based on demand, inventory levels, sales trends & market conditions Place & manage purchase orders to maintain appropriate inventory levels while preventing out-of-stocks, overstock & excess shrink Develop & maintain strong vendor relationships to support product availability, quality, pricing & service levels Negotiate product costs, pricing, terms & purchasing opportunities with suppliers Monitor seafood market trends, price fluctuations, availability & supply chain conditions to support informed purchasing decisions Evaluate vendors & products based on quality, cost, availability & company requirements Maintain accurate product costs, pricing & item information within company systems Monitor inventory levels, open purchase orders & product movement to ensure timely delivery & appropriate inventory turns Analyze sales trends, inventory performance, margins & category results to identify opportunities and address performance gaps Ensure seafood products meet company quality specifications, food safety requirements & applicable regulatory standards Partner with warehouse & logistics teams to resolve receiving, delivery & inventory issues Work with operations to address product quality concerns, discrepancies & supplier issues Support new supplier onboarding, new item setup & product introductions Collaborate with internal teams on pricing strategies, promotions & category initiatives Prepare & maintain reporting related to inventory, vendor performance, pricing & category results Qualifications 1–5 years of purchasing, buying, inventory management, merchandising or supply chain experience Strong analytical, organizational & problem-solving skills Strong negotiation & vendor management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Ability to analyze inventory, sales, pricing & market data Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Strong written & verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively across purchasing, operations, logistics & sales functions Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Agribusiness or a related field Previous seafood, foodservice, wholesale or food industry purchasing experience Knowledge of seafood products, quality standards, market conditions & sourcing Familiarity with HACCP, food safety standards & applicable seafood regulations Experience managing perishable inventory, product quality & shrink Work Environment / Expectations Primarily office-based environment with periodic warehouse interaction. Requires the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume wholesale environment and respond to changing inventory, pricing & market conditions. Schedule flexibility, including early hours, may be required based on category and business needs.
