The Purchasing Buyer I is responsible for supporting the procurement of materials and supplies necessary for production. This role involves managing vendor relationships, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery to maintain smooth operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Vendor Management and Sourcing (40%)
- Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable sourcing of raw materials and supplies.
- Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery performance, and make recommendations for approved vendors.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery schedules under the guidance of senior team members.
- Order Processing and Inventory Control (30%)
- Process purchase orders and follow up on delivery schedules to ensure on-time and in-full delivery of materials.
- Monitor inventory levels and place orders to maintain stock at required levels, aligning with production schedules.
- Collaborate with the inventory management team to track usage rates and adjust purchasing quantities as needed.
- Cost Analysis and Reporting (15%)
- Assist in analyzing cost structures and market trends to ensure competitive pricing.
- Generate reports on purchasing activities, vendor performance, and cost savings.
- Support senior team members in the preparation of forecasts and budget analysis for purchasing needs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)
- Work closely with production, quality assurance, and logistics teams to ensure material quality and timely availability for production.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to provide updates on procurement status and address any material supply concerns.
- Continuous Improvement (5%)
- Support initiatives to improve purchasing processes, enhance supplier partnerships, and optimize inventory management.
- Participate in training sessions and contribute ideas to enhance efficiency in procurement operations.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 Standards and CSR efforts.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 2 years of experience in a purchasing or supply chain role, in a manufacturing environment.
- Skills:
- Basic understanding of supply chain processes and purchasing principles.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP systems (i.e. SAP) is a plus.
