About Us Plain Dealing Lumber is a Southern Yellow Pine sawmill in northwest Louisiana that makes high-quality dimension lumber for building and construction markets across the southern United States. We're part of the Sumitomo Forestry Group, so we have the stability and long-term capital commitment of a global forest products company. We are a state-of-the-art sawmill, now moving from startup to full, sustained performance. As we're continuing to invest in people, equipment, reliability and systems; we need a proven leader to turn that investment into top-tier performance. The Opportunity The General Manager is the senior leader on site, accountable for safety, people, production, cost, quality and customer delivery. This is a hands-on turnaround and growth role in line for future site opportunities as we expand. We need a leader who has personally led real culture change, not just managed an existing one. You'll set the standard, build the leadership team, put in the systems and discipline the mill needs, and change how the organization thinks and works so the results last. You'll report directly to the President and have real authority to shape where the mill goes from here. What You'll Do Safety & Culture Model our core values every day and set the standard for the people who report to you Build an injury-free culture: committed leaders, engaged employees and strong safety systems, including behavior-based safety Lead culture change across the site: clear expectations, open communication and accountability at every level Build trust on the floor by being visible, following through and recognizing good performance Operational Excellence Own all site operations: log yard, sawmill, kilns, planer mill, shipping and maintenance Hit or beat targets for production, lumber recovery, grade yield, uptime, quality and cost per MBF Use data and KPIs to make decisions and run daily, weekly and monthly performance reviews Bring in Lean and continuous improvement practices Ship on time and in full, matching production to orders, inventory and sales priorities Maintenance & Reliability Leadership Lead the shift from reactive to planned, predictive maintenance Get full value from planning and scheduling, the CMMS, PM/PdM programs and work order discipline Partner with maintenance leadership to cut unplanned downtime, raise uptime and control maintenance cost per MBF Use root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures Make sure capital and repair spending goes to the equipment that matters most Business & Financial Leadership Own the site P&L, expense budget and annual operating plan Develop and carry out capital plans, from justification through startup Control product cost, inventory, and log and fiber procurement in partnership with the woodlands and sales teams Own environmental compliance, permitting and site stewardship People & Leadership Development Lead, coach and hold accountable a team of superintendents, supervisors and support staff Recruit and develop future leaders, and promote from within wherever we can Partner with HR on workforce planning, retention and performance management Partner with HR on workforce planning, retention and performance management What You Bring Required: A proven track record of leading culture change in a manufacturing operation: moving an organization toward accountability, safety ownership and continuous improvement, with measurable results that lasted Required: Strong maintenance and reliability background. You should understand millwright and electrical work, maintenance planning and scheduling, CMMS, preventive and predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance, and have a record of improving uptime 10+ years of progressive leadership in manufacturing, including 5+ years as a GM or Mill Manager with full site P&L responsibility Sawmill or wood products experience required; Southern Yellow Pine strongly preferred A proven record of improving safety, quality, productivity, cost and…
