City of Mexico Beach Job Description Department: Public Works Position: Sanitation Driver FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: Skilled work in the operation of a refuse collection vehicle which is used to collect refuse and trash. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Ø Operates, lifts, and dumps refuse into refuse collection vehicle Ø Exercises safety precautions while vehicle is in operation. Responsible for safe operations of vehicle and all workers assigned Ø Completes designated refuse collection route Ø Performs daily D.O.T. inspection of vehicle. Reports any defects or concerns about vehicle to supervisor Ø Drives vehicle to and from disposal site. Unloads vehicle at disposal site Ø Washes vehicles weekly Ø Maintains various records within department Ø Completes weigh tickets Performs other duties as assigned Job Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ø Knowledge of operation, maintenance, capabilities, limitations, and safety aspects of a refuse collection vehicle Ø Ability to maintain records and plan operations Ø Must have knowledge of D.O.T. pre and post trip inspection requirements Ø Ability to follow of all federal, state, and local D.O.T. regulations Ø Ability to interpret written and/or oral instructions and reports Ø Acceptable eyesight and hearing (With or without correction) Ø May require lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds Climbing, walking, depth perception, sitting, and good balance Education and/or Training: Ø High school diploma or equivalency diploma Ø Must possess a valid Class "B" or higher commercial driver license at the time of hire that is acceptable to the City's driving policy and insurance program Ø Minimum of one (1) year experience in the operation of heavy commercial vehicles Community Relations Functions: Ø Must be able to interact and communicate with public Ø Ability to answer public inquiries about sanitation department Work Environment: Ø Work is primarily outdoor exposure to weather and field conditions Ø Exposure to extreme noise, odors, dust, heights, and irate customers Ø Exposure to hazardous chemicals, heavy equipment, moving machinery Ø This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may require the ability to pass a medical evaluation Tools and Equipment: Ø Ability to operate large commercial refuse vehicles and various hand tools, i.e. shovels, rakes, etc. Supervision Received and Exercised: Ø This position reports to Public Works Superintendent Pay Grade: 103 Disclaimer: The position description does not constitute an employment agreement between the city and employee and is subject to change as the needs of the City and the requirements of the job change.
