Safety Officer – Trucking / DOT Compliance About the Position Reeve Trucking is seeking an experienced, hands-on Safety Officer to join our team in Stockton, California. We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the trucking industry who can work directly with our drivers and management team to help keep our operations safe and compliant with DOT and FMCSA requirements. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in trucking, transportation safety, DOT compliance, or a similar role. Experience with heavy haul, load securement/tie-down requirements, Samsara, Hours of Service, accident investigation, and insurance claims is highly desirable. This is not strictly a desk position. This person will work directly with drivers, Dispatch, Operations, the Shop, management, customers, insurance representatives, and other departments. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, stays organized, follows through, and is comfortable handling safety issues as they come up. Responsibilities Responsibilities may include: Maintain and support compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations Monitor driver Hours of Service (HOS) and ELD compliance Review driver logs and address potential violations or compliance concerns Utilize Samsara for driver safety, cameras, GPS, vehicle information, and compliance monitoring Assist with DOT audits, inspections, recordkeeping, and compliance documentation Maintain driver qualification and other safety-related files Investigate accidents, incidents, property damage, cargo damage, and safety complaints Gather driver statements, photographs, video, witness information, police reports, and other documentation following an incident Review Samsara camera footage and vehicle data following accidents or safety concerns Assist management with accident preventability reviews and corrective action Coordinate accident and claim information with insurance carriers, adjusters, brokers, attorneys, and management Maintain organized accident, incident, claim, and safety files Track accidents, citations, roadside inspections, violations, and safety trends Conduct driver safety meetings, coaching, counseling, and retraining when needed Assist management with corrective action and documentation related to safety violations Monitor driver performance and address unsafe driving behavior Assist with new-driver safety orientation and ongoing training Maintain knowledge of DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements and company procedures Follow up on roadside inspections, citations, DOT violations, and related documentation Work closely with Dispatch, Operations, and the Shop regarding safety and compliance concerns Assist with company safety policies, procedures, and training Help maintain a professional and accountable safety culture throughout the company Systems & Compliance Knowledge Experience working with trucking and regulatory websites and systems is strongly preferred, including: FMCSA Portal Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse DataQs MCS-150 / company registration information Samsara ISNetworld CERS EVQ Motus Other DOT/FMCSA and transportation compliance systems Candidates should be comfortable navigating online compliance systems, maintaining accurate records, researching requirements, and following through on required updates or corrective actions.
