Safety Coordinator – CDL-A Trucking Operations Z Transportation | Dover, NJ Full-Time | On-Site Salary: $46,800–$71,800 per year Z Transportation is seeking a detail-oriented Safety Coordinator to support our CDL-A drivers and manage fleet safety, driver compliance, and accident prevention. You’ll work closely with drivers, dispatch, maintenance, and management to address safety concerns and promote responsible driving practices. We’re looking for someone with trucking safety experience who keeps accurate records, communicates clearly, and follows through on issues. Responsibilities Monitor driver safety performance and provide coaching on safe driving practices and company policies. Review electronic logging device (ELD) records, hours-of-service logs, and potential violations; follow up with drivers to address issues. Maintain driver qualification files and track CDL status, medical certifications, motor vehicle records, and required documentation. Support driver onboarding, safety orientation, and ongoing training. Coordinate drug and alcohol testing and assist with Clearinghouse administrative tasks. Review roadside inspections, citations, and safety violations; document corrective actions. Assist with accident and incident investigations, including gathering driver statements, photos, reports, and supporting records. Coordinate with insurance representatives and management on claims documentation and follow-up. Track safety trends, prepare reports, and recommend practical improvements. Work with dispatch and maintenance to address equipment concerns, inspection findings, and driver-reported defects. Help prepare records for safety reviews and audits. Qualifications Previous experience in trucking safety, fleet compliance, or a related transportation role. Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements, hours of service, ELDs, and driver qualification files. Experience communicating directly with CDL-A drivers and handling sensitive situations professionally. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate, confidential records. Comfortable using Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and transportation management or safety software. Preferred Experience Accident investigation and insurance claims support. Driver coaching, safety orientation, and corrective action follow-up. Familiarity with CSA scores, roadside inspection data, and fleet safety reporting. CDL-A or previous commercial driving experience is a plus.
