Route Driver (Livestock)

Fullmer Calf Ranch is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious Route Driver to transport calves between local dairies and our depot in Independence, Iowa. This position requires experience towing livestock trailers, strong communication skills, and the physical ability to handle and load calves throughout the workday. Compensation & Housing Starting pay: $18 per hour. Provided apartment valued at approximately $1,200 per month. Combined compensation value is approximately equivalent to $23 per hour based on a 60-hour workweek. Responsibilities Drive assigned routes between local dairies and the depot, typically making 6–10 stops per day. Safely operate a dually pickup with a fifth-wheel, double-decker calf trailer. Load and unload calves, including repeatedly lifting calves weighing up to 80 pounds. Handle and transport calves carefully, prioritizing their safety and well-being. Communicate effectively with dairy contacts and the depot team. Maintain a consistent schedule and complete daily routes reliably. Assist with calf care and other depot duties on Saturdays as needed. Requirements Previous experience driving a dually pickup while towing a fifth-wheel livestock trailer. Clean driving record, with no more than one speeding ticket. Ability to pass random drug screenings. Physically fit and capable of repeatedly lifting and handling calves weighing up to 80 pounds. Reliable, attentive, and committed to safe driving practices. Good communication skills and the ability to work professionally with dairy contacts and team members. Comfortable working long days and performing physically demanding tasks. Schedule Monday–Friday: Route driving. Saturdays: Depot work and calf care as needed. Sundays: Off. Typical start time: Approximately 6:00 a.m. Typical workday: 10–12 hours, generally finishing around 5:00 p.m. This is an agricultural position and does not include overtime pay.
