About the Role Our family-owned Pet Supplies Plus store is seeking a hands-on Retail Inventory Lead to keep inventory accurate, organized, fresh, and available for customers. You will coordinate receiving, stocking, cycle counts, replenishment, and expiration checks while guiding team members through daily inventory tasks. This role requires someone who can investigate discrepancies, follow through on problems, and work alongside the team unloading deliveries and stocking shelves. Key Responsibilities Receiving: Verify deliveries against shipment records, identify shortages, overages, and damaged products, and coordinate claims or corrections with the Store Manager. Inventory accuracy: Conduct scheduled cycle counts, investigate differences between physical stock and system quantities, and process approved corrections according to store procedures. Shelf availability: Identify empty shelves and low-stock items, replenish from backstock, and flag ordering needs within corporate replenishment guidelines. Stockroom organization: Maintain clearly labeled storage locations and organized backstock so products can be located and replenished quickly. Expiration management: Check dates regularly, rotate products using first-expiring-first-out practices, and flag near-expiry items for approved markdowns, returns, or other action. Shrink and damage control: Track damaged, expired, missing, and unsellable products; identify recurring causes and recommend corrective actions. Merchandising: Maintain accurate shelf labels, product locations, pricing, and displays according to store standards and planograms. Team coordination: Assign receiving and stocking tasks, train employees on inventory procedures, and verify work is completed accurately and on time. Reporting: Keep clear records of counts, discrepancies, receiving issues, and expiration checks; provide the Store Manager with a weekly update on outstanding actions. Store support: Assist customers and support daily store operations as needed. Required Qualifications At least two years of hands-on retail inventory, receiving, replenishment, or stockroom experience. Experience conducting inventory counts and investigating discrepancies. Familiarity with handheld scanners, inventory systems, and point-of-sale systems. Strong organization, basic math, attention to detail, and follow-through. Ability to prioritize deliveries, shelf replenishment, and inventory checks. Ability to guide coworkers and communicate issues clearly to management. Availability for scheduled deliveries and a flexible retail schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Previous inventory lead, department lead, receiving lead, or retail supervisory experience. Experience with pet supplies, grocery, feed, or other products requiring expiration tracking. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Zebra scanners, or similar tools. Basic Excel skills for tracking inventory issues and preparing reports. Physical Requirements Ability to perform essential duties—with or without reasonable accommodation—including standing and walking for extended periods, bending, reaching, unloading deliveries, and moving pet food bags and other merchandise. Follow safe lifting practices and use equipment or team assistance as needed. What Success Looks Like Accurate inventory records and timely resolution of discrepancies.
