Retail Store Associate - Building Materials

Retail Sales Associate / Yard Support Capital Lumber Co. — Boise, Idaho Full-Time | Monday–Friday Capital Lumber is looking for an experienced Retail Sales Associate to join our team. We're looking for someone who understands lumber and building materials , enjoys helping customers, and isn't afraid to step outside and help load an order when needed. This is not a traditional retail position where you'll spend the entire day behind a counter. Our team works together. One minute you may be helping a contractor figure out what material they need, and the next you may be outside operating a forklift and helping get their order loaded. What You'll Do Help contractors, builders, and homeowners with lumber and building-material purchases Answer product questions and help customers find the right material for their project Create and process customer orders Help customers understand product options, sizes, grades, and availability Answer phones and assist with customer questions Work with our yard and delivery teams to make sure orders are accurate Help maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming store Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing products Operate a forklift to pull and load customer orders Help customers load lumber and building materials into trucks and trailers Verify orders before customers leave the yard Jump in wherever needed to keep customers moving Building Materials Experience For this position, we're specifically looking for someone with previous experience in lumber, hardware, construction, or the building-materials industry. You don't need to know every product we carry on day one, but you should already be comfortable around products such as: Dimensional lumber and studs Plywood and OSB Pressure-treated lumber Cedar and fencing Decking Engineered lumber Siding and trim Concrete and basic building supplies Construction hardware and fasteners Experience working with contractors and understanding how building materials are sold is a big plus. Forklift & Yard Work This position will regularly help outside in the lumber yard, so forklift experience is strongly preferred. You should be comfortable: Operating a forklift safely around customers, vehicles, and material Pulling lumber and building-material orders Loading pickup trucks and trailers Handling long and sometimes heavy material Working outside throughout the year Keeping an eye on safety while still working efficiently What We're Looking For Previous lumber, hardware, construction, or building-materials experience Retail or contractor sales experience Forklift experience preferred Strong customer-service skills Comfortable using computers and learning our ordering system Good basic math and measurement skills Able to identify common lumber and building materials Comfortable lifting and handling material Dependable and on time Organized and detail-oriented Willing to work both inside the store and outside in the yard Someone who sees something that needs to be done and helps get it done The Right Person We're looking for someone who can become a go-to person for our customers .
