Retail Operations (Director / Manager), U.S.
Level to be determined based on experience and strategic scope
Overview
Gallery Dept. is a Los Angeles-based fashion brand blending art, design, and culture. As the business continues to expand across retail stores and global activations, we are seeking a Retail Operations leader to build and drive operational infrastructure across the U.S.
This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence across stores and activations, with a strong focus on inventory integrity, process discipline, and cross-functional alignment.
Role Summary
The Retail Operations (Director / Manager) will own end-to-end retail operations across U.S. stores and activations. This individual will partner closely with Retail, Finance, Merchandising, and Warehouse teams to ensure consistent execution, strong controls, and scalable processes. The role can be based out of LA or Miami.
This role is initially structured as an individual contributor, with the opportunity to build and scale a team as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Systems Management (NetSuite / Shopify or similar)
- Own inventory integrity across all retail locations and activations.
- Oversee transfers, adjustments, reconciliations, and exception reporting.
- Manage inventory control including cycle counts, negative stock management, and annual physical inventory.
- Partner with Finance and Warehouse to ensure accurate reporting and alignment.
- Establish reporting cadence and audit processes to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Drive continuous improvement of inventory processes and controls.
Store Operations (Miami + Flagship)
- Ensure full operational readiness across stores at all times.
- Manage supply levels including packaging, bags, tags, hangers, and consumables.
- Establish reorder points, min/max levels, and vendor coordination where needed.
- Support store teams with operational execution and issue resolution.
- Maintain standards across facilities, storage, and back-of-house organization.
Pop-Ups & Activations
- Lead operational planning and execution for all retail activations.
- Oversee allocations, shipping/receiving, and on-site operational setup.
- Ensure all operational kits, tools, and supplies are prepared in advance.
- Support on-site execution as needed and manage post-event reconciliation.
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure seamless activation delivery.
- Oversee operations schedules, create accounts, and communicate all relevant information to cross-functional partners.
Process Development & Operational Infrastructure
- Build and implement SOPs across all areas of retail operations.
- Identify operational gaps and implement scalable solutions.
- Standardize workflows across stores and activations.
- Drive consistency, efficiency, and accountability across teams.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Act as a key operational partner to Retail, Finance, Merchandising, and Warehouse teams.
- Support store teams with troubleshooting, escalation management, and operational guidance.
- Ensure alignment across departments on inventory flow, processes, and execution priorities.
- Train and educate store teams — including store management, operations, and stock roles — on company policies, procedures, and systems.
Compliance & Facilities
- Ensure store compliance on company policies and procedures in partnership with Retail Leadership, store management, Finance, Merchandising, VM, Security, HR, and Supply Chain.
- Manage new policy rollouts and identify areas requiring additional guidelines or reinforcement.
- Ensure proper adoption and use of digital tools as they relate to retail operations.
- Partner with Facilities to oversee maintenance, vendor coordination, and issue resolution; ensure stores remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.
- Provide leadership visibility on risks, operational disruptions, and issues impacting store performance.
Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of experience in retail operations, preferably within fashion or luxury.
- Strong understanding of inventory systems (NetSuite or similar ERP) and retail/e-commerce platforms (Shopify or similar).
- Proven experience managing multi-store operations and/or retail activations.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and execution.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Solution-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed for stores and activations.
Physical Requirements
- Hybrid role with regular on-site presence across store and warehouse environments.
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and support inventory counts when required.
- Flexibility to support periodic after-hours counts, launches, or pop-up setup/close-out based on business needs.
Role Structure
Team: Individual contributor initially, with scalability as business grows
Coverage: U.S. retail stores and all pop-ups and brand activations (domestic and international)
Work Model: Hybrid with regular on-site presence
Travel: Required as needed

- Must maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling company information. A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) will be required upon hire.
- Compensation and title will be aligned based on experience and scope.
