Research Assistant- Research & Development (Bio)
Northern RNA Inc.Position: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our R&D Bio team. The successful candidate will support the development and execution of laboratory processes related to plasmid DNA and RNA production, purification, characterization, and analytical testing. A key responsibility of this position will be the execution and optimization of chromatography-based purification processes for plasmid DNA and RNA. The individual will also provide hands-on support for molecular construct development, upstream and downstream process development, assay execution, and analytical method development. This is an ideal position for an early-career scientist who enjoys hands-on laboratory work and is interested in developing expertise across molecular biology, nucleic acid purification, bioprocess development, and analytical characterization. Activities in this role: Execute and support chromatography-based purification of plasmid DNA and RNA, including buffer preparation, sample preparation, instrument setup, fraction collection, and downstream processing. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot chromatography systems and associated laboratory equipment, ensuring consistent and reliable experimental execution. Assist in the development and optimization of purification processes by evaluating process parameters, product recovery, purity, and overall process performance. Support DNA construct development and molecular biology activities, including plasmid preparation, PCR, cloning, transformation, screening, Nanopore sequencing, and construct characterization. Execute established analytical assays for in-process testing and product characterization, and assist with the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of new assays. Support broader process development activities by executing experimental studies, analyzing and interpreting data, identifying trends, and communicating results to the R&D team. Maintain accurate experimental records and laboratory documentation, prepare reagents and materials, and contribute to SOPs, protocols, technical reports, inventory management, and general laboratory operations. Work closely with colleagues to scale up ongoing and new products. Maintain a high level of scientific integrity, safe and productive laboratory environment laboratory safety.
