Position Purpose

The Recovery Transportation Specialist supports Harbor House’s trauma-informed recovery model by providing safe, reliable, and respectful transportation for residents. Transportation is an integral transition point in the recovery process. Access to transportation helps reduce barriers to engagement, medical care, and reintegration.

How This Role Supports Recovery

· Provide predictable transportation that reduces anxiety during transitions

· Model calm, respectful interaction during vulnerable moments

· Support access to treatment, medical care, and employment-related activities

· Reinforce dignity, boundaries, and safety outside the facility

Core Responsibilities

· Safely transport residents to scheduled appointments and obligations

· Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and maintain vehicle cleanliness

· Maintain transportation logs and required documentation

· Follow traffic laws and organizational policies

· Report vehicle maintenance or safety issues promptly

Trauma-Informed Professional Conduct & Boundaries

Transportation staff maintain respectful communication, clear professional boundaries, and confidentiality at all times. This role does not include clinical counseling or security enforcement.


Requirements

Positions Qualifications:

  1. Minimum Education - High School Diploma or GED required. No waiver of education shall be granted.
  2. Experience in transporting individuals preferred.
  3. Commercial driver's license preferred. A Class B license with a passenger endorsement may be considered.
  4. CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (or willingness to obtain during onboarding)
  5. Preferred Skills:

- Ability to express information/observations both verbally and in writing in an accurate, professional manner. Ability to read and interpret written information.

- Interpersonal relationship skills.

- Considerable knowledge and understanding of AA philosophy and 12 Steps.


Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position involves prolonged sitting while driving, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
