Railcar Prep & Inspection Technician Road & Rail Services – Montgomery, AL Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour Job Type: Full-Time Join Our Rail Operations Team Road & Rail Services is hiring a Railcar Prep & Inspection Technician for our Montgomery, Alabama operation. This is a hands-on industrial position responsible for inspecting, cleaning, preparing, and completing minor repairs on railcars before they are placed into service. If you have experience with stick welding, manufacturing, railroad operations, construction, mechanical work, industrial maintenance, or general labor , this may be a great opportunity to put your skills to work while building a career in the rail industry. This position is primarily performed outdoors around active railroad equipment. We're looking for someone who is dependable, safety-focused, comfortable with physical work, and willing to learn our railcar preparation and inspection procedures. What You'll Be Doing As a Railcar Prep & Inspection Technician, your daily responsibilities may include: Inspect railcars for damage, wear, structural concerns, and other visible defects Open, close, and secure railcar end doors according to established procedures Prepare railcars for service by removing dirt, debris, and other materials Use backpack blowers, scrapers, hand tools, and other equipment Identify railcar conditions that may require maintenance or repair Perform approved minor repairs, including stick welding , when required Maintain tools, equipment, and company-provided PPE Keep assigned work areas organized and free of unnecessary hazards Communicate repair concerns or unsafe conditions to supervision Follow all company, customer, railroad, and site-specific safety procedures Assist other team members as operational needs require What We're Looking For Successful candidates will be dependable employees who take safety seriously and are comfortable working in an active industrial environment. Qualifications include: Previous stick-welding experience Experience using common hand and power tools Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Dependable attendance and punctuality Strong attention to detail and safety Ability to work effectively as part of a team Previous experience in railroad operations, railcar preparation, welding, manufacturing, construction, mechanical repair, industrial maintenance, or similar hands-on work is helpful but not required.
