R&D Project Manager - Product Development (Peptide Biomaterials)
ConsultWe are exclusively mandated to support a fast-growing Med-Tech startup in its continued expansion of their R&D team in Michigan. As part of this expansion, we are currently hiring an R&D Project Manager to take ownership of innovative product development projects, working at the intersection of biomaterials, regenerative science and medical technology. The content is therefore quite enticing to profiles having studied/worked within that scientific area. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing R&D environment and work closely with scientists, engineers and business stakeholders to help translate innovative technologies into regulated products in a niche but crucial public health focused application field. The Role You will lead multidisciplinary R&D projects across the product development lifecycle, coordinating teams across R&D, Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Manufacturing and external partners. Responsibilities will include: Leading R&D projects from initial concept through product development Managing project scope, timelines, budgets, resources, risks and deliverables Coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams and external partners Identifying project risks, dependencies and roadblocks and driving appropriate solutions Tracking milestones and ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget Providing clear project updates and decision-making materials to senior stakeholders Supporting design-control and project documentation within a regulated environment Ensuring development activities align with relevant medical device quality and regulatory requirements A particularly important part of the position will be your ability to lead through influence . You won't necessarily have direct line authority over project contributors, so we're looking for someone who can create alignment, challenge constructively and keep multidisciplinary teams moving towards a common objective. Your Profile 5+ years of relevant industry experience, including R&D/project leadership A scientific or engineering background relevant to product development Experience within medical devices, and particularly biomaterials, regenerative technologies, formulation, drug delivery, implantable devices, tissue engineering or biologically interacting medical technologies would be particularly relevant. Strong experience coordinating cross-functional technical teams and practical knowledge of project planning, risk management and structured product development Exposure to regulated product development, ideally including design controls, ISO 13485 and/or FDA requirements Advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biochemistry or a related discipline This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing R&D focused structure with an extensive project portfolio and a true plan for sustainable growth. If you enjoy an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment where you can take genuine ownership of projects, work closely with fellow scientists and have a direct (and not multi layered) access to strategic management, this could be a great opportunity for you!
