Pay: $18.00 to $35.00 per hour, based on experience About the Role PAG Pharmatech America LLC (www.pagpharmatechusa.com) provides custom formulation and US-based contract manufacturing for dietary supplement and nutraceutical brands. We are looking for an R&D Formulation Specialist to develop supplement formulas and make samples for our clients and in-house product lines. The role covers formula development and review for conventional dosage forms (hard capsules, tablets, powders, stick packs and gummies) as well as two growing lines: oral pouches and soft chews. Hands-on sampling covers powders, tablets, hard capsules, oral pouches and soft chews. You will turn a client's concept or target label into a formula that works on the production line, meets FDA dietary supplement rules, and can be quoted accurately, working closely with sales, supply chain and production from first inquiry through approved sample and scale-up. Key Responsibilities Formula development: Turn client concepts, target labels and benchmark products into complete formulas, including actives, excipients, flavors, sweeteners and processing aids. Convert label claim amounts into raw material input using each ingredient's actual assay or potency, with appropriate overages to meet label claim through shelf life. Check every formula against unit capacity (capsule size, tablet weight, scoop or stick fill, pouch fill, chew weight) before costing. Support each recommendation with a clear basis such as clinical literature, regulatory limits or comparable market products. Review formulas for FDA dietary supplement compliance (DSHEA, NDI status, ingredient safety limits). Prepare formula sheets with ingredient specs and target cost so sales and supply chain can quote quickly. Conventional dosage forms: Develop and review formulas for hard capsules, tablets, powders, stick packs and gummies. Gummy work covers formulation and formula review only, with no sampling. Solve technical problems such as flowability, compression, blend uniformity, dissolution, solubility, taste masking and color stability. Oral pouches: Develop nicotine-free functional oral pouch formulas (for example energy, focus, fresh breath and oral care) in the dry pouch format. Control particle size, bulk density, moisture, flowability and fill weight consistency. Work on flavor, sweetness, cooling, release rate and mouthfeel. Support machine trials and adjust formulas when a blend does not run well. Soft chews: Develop soft chew formulas for human and pet supplement applications. Balance active loading against texture, palatability, water activity and shelf stability. Select binders, humectants, fats and flavors suited to the process, and support scale-up on high-speed automated forming equipment. Sampling and testing: Make bench and pilot samples of powders, tablets, hard capsules, oral pouches and soft chews, and coordinate samples made by partner factories when needed. Keep sampling fast and organized so clients receive samples on schedule. Run or arrange basic testing such as appearance, weight variation, moisture, water activity, disintegration, taste panels and stability checks. Write clear sample notes and revise formulas based on client feedback. Documentation and support: Maintain formula records, batch records, raw material specifications and change history. Prepare product specifications, Supplement Facts panel drafts and ingredient statements. Work with supply chain on raw material sourcing, alternative ingredients and COA review. Answer technical questions from sales and clients. Follow cGMP practices (21 CFR Part 111) in all lab and sampling work. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher. A degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Biochemistry or a related field, or work experience in the dietary supplement industry. Either background is acceptable. Solid knowledge of common supplement ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, botanical extracts, am…
