MONDAY - THURSDAY (10-HOUR SHIFTS) FRIDAYS OFF! SIGN ON BONUS! Overview The Quality Inspector for our Transportation Department is responsible for inspecting fabricated train frames, assemblies, and related components to ensure compliance with customer drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and work instructions. This position performs in-process and final inspections throughout the fabrication and assembly process, verifies dimensional and visual requirements, documents inspection results, identifies nonconforming conditions, and works closely with Production, Welding, Engineering, and Quality personnel to ensure products meet all applicable requirements prior to release. Task: Inspection & Quality Control Perform in-process and final inspections of train frames, fabricated assemblies, and associated components. Verify products conform to applicable customer drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements. Review drawings, dimensions, tolerances, notes, and revision levels prior to inspection. Perform dimensional inspections using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, squares, levels, gauges, and other inspection tools as required. Verify critical dimensions, hole locations, mounting points, overall frame geometry, and other specified characteristics. Perform visual inspection of fabricated and welded assemblies for workmanship and obvious defects. Verify required manufacturing operations have been completed prior to final acceptance. Ensure inspection requirements are completed and documented before product is released to the next operation or shipment. Measurement & Inspection Equipment Properly use measuring and inspection equipment. Verify inspection equipment is within its required calibration period before use. Properly handle and maintain inspection equipment. Select the appropriate inspection method and measuring equipment based on drawing requirements and tolerances. Report damaged, inaccurate, or out-of-calibration inspection equipment. Drawings & Specifications Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, customer specifications, and work instructions. Understand dimensional tolerances, geometric requirements, weld symbols, and drawing notes applicable to the product. Confirm the correct drawing revision and applicable documentation are being used. Communicate drawing or specification questions to Quality or Engineering before accepting questionable product. Nonconforming Material Identify and document products or characteristics that do not meet requirements. Clearly identify and control nonconforming product to prevent unintended use or shipment. Initiate or support Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) as required. Communicate quality concerns promptly to Production and Quality Management. Verify reworked or repaired product meets requirements before acceptance. Do not independently approve deviations or use-as-is conditions unless specifically authorized. Documentation & Traceability Accurately complete required inspection reports and quality records. Record actual inspection results where required. Maintain product identification and traceability throughout the inspection process. Verify required documentation accompanies the product when applicable. Maintain organized and accurate inspection records in accordance with JBM procedures. Production Support Work closely with Production, Welding, Engineering, and Quality personnel to resolve inspection and manufacturing issues. Communicate quality concerns as early as possible to minimize rework and production delays. Support first-piece, in-process, and final inspections as required. Assist Production personnel in understanding drawing and inspection requirements.
