Purchasing Supervisor

About the Role Schrader Pacific is seeking a Purchasing Supervisor to oversee daily purchasing operations, buyer execution, and vendor performance for our automotive component manufacturing plant in Altavista, VA. This role leads the procurement team in managing direct materials, MRO, and freight logistics, while tracking Purchase Price Variance (PPV), supporting annual standard costing, conducting supplier evaluations, and responding to customer compliance requests. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and coordinate the daily activities and priorities of buyers and purchasing support personnel. Direct, MRO & Freight Procurement: Oversee daily buyer activities across direct materials, MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations), freight services, and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) approval workflows. Cost Management & Budgeting: Track and report Purchase Price Variance (PPV), monitor buyer cost targets, and participate in annual standard costing and budgeting processes. Supplier Evaluations & Audits: Perform ongoing supplier evaluations, lead vendor/services audits, and enforce zero-defect quality and delivery expectations. Engineering Change Support: Manage purchasing execution for Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support rapid new product implementation. Reporting & Trade Compliance: Prepare monthly purchasing performance reports and process customer requests regarding Country of Origin and material content declarations. Process Improvement: Optimize purchasing workflows, eliminating waste across purchase requisitions, ordering, releases, receiving, and invoice resolution. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field. 4–6 years of purchasing experience, handling direct materials and MRO in a manufacturing environment. 1–2 years of formal or informal supervisory, team-lead, or project leadership experience. Solid computer proficiency with hands-on experience using ERP/MRP systems. Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective at managing daily priorities independently. Preferred Qualifications Experience or certification in Business Law. Experience with PPV tracking, annual standard costing, CapEx approvals, and ECR workflows. Familiarity with Country of Origin documentation and automotive material content reporting. Experience with APQP, PPAP, or automotive quality management systems. Background in high-mix/low-volume automotive manufacturing. Practical knowledge of Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies. Professional certification such as CPSM (Institute for Supply Management) or CPIM/CSCP (APICS).
