Purchasing Supervisor

Purchasing Supervisor We are seeking a finance-minded Purchasing Manager to own our purchasing and inventory functions from end to end. In this role, you will manage supplier relationships and purchasing strategy, and you will also oversee inventory control, carrying costs, and materials planning. You will use financial analysis to make sure every purchasing and stocking decision supports margin, cash flow, and operational reliability. This role suits someone who combines strong supply chain execution with the analytical depth of a finance professional. Key Responsibilities Procurement & Sourcing Manage the full purchasing cycle, from requisition and supplier selection through negotiation, purchase order issuance, receipt, and payment. Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships, and evaluate vendor performance on cost, quality, and delivery. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to reduce total cost of ownership. Identify and qualify alternate suppliers to reduce supply risk. Inventory Management Lead inventory control, including cycle count programs, stock accuracy, and reconciliation with the general ledger. Optimize inventory carrying costs by setting appropriate safety stock, reorder points, and turnover targets. Manage materials requirements planning (MRP) to align purchasing with production schedules and demand forecasts. Identify and address excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory. Financial Analysis & Planning Perform cost-variance analysis on purchase price, standard cost, and budget, and communicate findings and corrective actions to leadership. Build cash flow forecasts related to purchasing commitments and inventory investment. Drive working capital optimization through payment terms, inventory levels, and supplier financing opportunities. Prepare regular reporting on spend, savings, inventory valuation, and key supply chain metrics. Leadership & Process Lead and develop purchasing and inventory team members as applicable. Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Sales, and Production on forecasting and planning. Establish and improve procurement policies, internal controls, and approval workflows. Support audits and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Flexibility to work as needed to support the company. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Finance. A degree in Business Administration or another field may be considered only with substantial demonstrated financial analysis experience. 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, inventory management, or supply chain. Demonstrated experience with cost-variance analysis, cash flow forecasting, and working capital management. Hands-on experience with cycle counting, inventory valuation, and MRP processes. Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with an ERP system (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics). Preferred Master's degree (MBA or MS in Finance or Supply Chain). Professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, or CPA/CFA. Experience in manufacturing, energy, aerospace, or distribution environments. Experience with BI or analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau).
