BONNEVILLE MACHINEAbout the Position Bonneville Machine is looking for a Purchasing and Safety Manager to handle purchasing for the shop and manage the daily follow-through of our workplace safety program. You’ll work with suppliers to get the materials, tooling, parts, and services our team needs. You’ll also spend time on the shop floor, help identify and address hazards, coordinate inspections and training, and make sure safety concerns are followed through to completion. Our ISO 9001:2015-certified shop specializes in large-diameter and heavy-component machining, CNC milling and turning, fabrication, welding, industrial repairs, and mechanical rebuilds. This position works closely with management, shop foremen, project managers, quality, receiving, and accounting. We’re looking for someone who stays organized, communicates clearly, and follows through—whether that means tracking down a late material order or making sure an equipment issue gets resolved. What You’ll Do Purchasing & Supplier Coordination Work with estimators, project managers, and shop personnel to identify the materials, tooling, parts, and services needed for upcoming work. Obtain and compare supplier quotes for raw materials, tooling, shop supplies, maintenance parts, personal protective equipment, and outside services. Evaluate pricing, quality, availability, and delivery dates. Work with suppliers to resolve problems and find practical alternatives when needed. Prepare accurate purchase orders under the correct job or expense category, following company approval procedures and including required specifications and certifications. Check available stock and monitor frequently used supplies to help prevent shortages and unnecessary purchases. Track orders, confirm delivery dates, and let the team know early when a delay could affect production. Work with receiving, quality, and accounting to resolve incorrect orders, missing paperwork, returns, and pricing or invoice discrepancies. Workplace Safety Walk the shop regularly, talk with employees about safety concerns, document hazards, and follow corrective actions through completion. Maintain and improve safety procedures with management and shop leadership, including practices for personal protective equipment, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, chemical safety, and emergency response. Track completion of operator pre-use checks and scheduled equipment inspections. Coordinate preventive maintenance, qualified inspections, and service visits for forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other shop equipment. Respond promptly to unsafe conditions. Work with shop leadership to stop unsafe work and keep defective equipment out of service until corrective work and required approvals are complete. Coordinate new employee safety orientation, brief safety meetings, and required training. Arrange specialized training and operator evaluations with qualified personnel. Keep training records, inspection reports, safety data sheets, and equipment service records organized and current. Help investigate injuries, incidents, and near misses, identify contributing causes, and make sure agreed corrections are completed. Support required injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting with management and provide clear updates on open safety concerns and overdue actions. What We’re Looking For Experience purchasing materials, tooling, supplies, or outside services for manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or industrial repair operation. Experience coordinating workplace safety activities, including inspections, employee training, and corrective actions. Working knowledge of OSHA/UOSH requirements that apply to manufacturing and the ability to recognize common shop hazards. Ability to compare supplier quotes, prepare accurate purchase orders, track costs, and manage delivery commitments.
