Purchasing Manager
Bussell Building, Inc.About the Position Bussell Homes is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Purchasing Manager to lead purchasing operations for our growing production homebuilding company. As we continue expanding throughout Southwest Missouri and beyond, we are looking for a leader who can strengthen vendor relationships, negotiate competitive purchasing agreements, control construction costs, maintain accurate purchasing data, and develop efficient processes that support our long-term growth. This is a key leadership position that goes beyond purchasing materials and negotiating prices. The ideal candidate understands how purchasing impacts profitability, construction schedules, job costing, and overall operational performance. Key Responsibilities Purchasing & Cost Management Oversee purchasing operations, including work orders (WOs), purchase orders (POs), and purchasing budgets. Negotiate competitive pricing, contracts, and purchasing agreements with vendors and trade partners. Develop and negotiate national-level purchasing agreements, manufacturer-direct pricing programs, volume discounts, and rebate structures with major building product manufacturers. Identify opportunities to leverage purchasing volume across communities and future markets to maximize savings and manufacturer incentives. Monitor construction costs, purchasing variances, and budget adherence. Identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and process improvements. Ensure purchasing commitments align with approved budgets and company standards. Vendor & Trade Partner Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with local suppliers, subcontractors, regional distributors, and national manufacturers. Evaluate vendor pricing, quality, reliability, and production capacity. Identify, negotiate with, and onboard new trade partners as needed. Manage manufacturer rebate programs, track purchasing incentives, and ensure earned rebates are accurately collected. Resolve vendor-related issues and support long-term trade partner relationships. Systems & Process Management Maintain accurate purchasing data, pricing, and information within our Mark Systems ERP platform. Oversee WO and PO processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and accountability. Develop and improve standardized purchasing procedures that support increasing production volume. Ensure purchasing information supports accurate job costing, budgeting, scheduling, and reporting. Leadership & Collaboration Lead and support purchasing department staff. Work closely with Operations, Construction, Estimating, Accounting, and Drafting. Identify operational inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions. Support production planning and purchasing readiness across multiple communities. Qualifications Experience in residential construction purchasing, preferably with a production homebuilder. Strong understanding of residential construction materials, methods, and trade scopes. Experience negotiating vendor contracts and managing supplier relationships. Experience negotiating manufacturer-direct agreements, national purchasing programs, and rebate structures preferred. Ability to read and interpret residential construction plans. Understanding of construction budgets, job costing, and purchasing processes. Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel; Mark Systems experience strongly preferred. Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Leadership experience preferred.
