Company Overview Turn-Key Industrial Services is an established industrial contractor specializing in custom steel fabrication, industrial maintenance, mechanical construction, process piping, machining, rigging, and equipment installation. We serve a variety of industries, including steel mills, foundries, chemical plants, aggregate facilities, manufacturing plants, and power generation facilities. We are seeking an experienced, organized, and motivated Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement activities for our fabrication shops and field construction operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring materials, equipment, and services are purchased competitively, delivered on time, and properly managed to support project schedules and profitability. Position Summary The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for managing the purchasing process, developing vendor relationships, negotiating pricing, coordinating material deliveries, and controlling purchasing costs across multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have experience purchasing materials and equipment for industrial construction, steel fabrication, mechanical contracting, or manufacturing operations. This individual must be able to work closely with project managers, estimators, shop supervisors, and field personnel to ensure materials and equipment are available when needed while maintaining cost control and accurate purchasing records. Key ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & Procurement Manage daily purchasing activities for shop fabrication, industrial maintenance, and field construction projects. Purchase carbon steel, stainless steel, structural steel, plate, pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, fasteners, welding supplies, and other fabrication materials. Procure mechanical equipment, replacement parts, bearings, motors, gearboxes, and industrial maintenance supplies. Purchase tools, consumables, safety supplies, and equipment needed for shop and field operations. Obtain competitive quotes from multiple vendors and negotiate favorable pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules. Issue and track purchase orders to ensure accurate pricing, quantities, and delivery dates. Identify alternative suppliers and materials when necessary to meet project requirements and deadlines. Coordinate emergency and expedited material purchases for plant shutdowns, breakdowns, and time-sensitive projects. Vendor & Supplier Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel suppliers, industrial distributors, equipment vendors, and subcontractors. Evaluate vendors based on pricing, quality, reliability, service, and delivery performance. Establish preferred vendor relationships and negotiate volume discounts when appropriate. Maintain current vendor pricing and purchasing information. Resolve issues involving incorrect shipments, damaged materials, shortages, and vendor billing discrepancies. Identify opportunities to consolidate purchases and reduce overall material costs. Project Coordination & Material Management Work closely with project managers and estimators to review material requirements, project specifications, and purchasing budgets. Review material takeoffs, bills of materials, drawings, and specifications to verify purchasing requirements. Coordinate material procurement for multiple projects simultaneously. Monitor material lead times and communicate potential delays to project managers and shop supervisors. Arrange deliveries to fabrication facilities and customer job sites. Track purchased materials against project budgets and job cost codes. Coordinate with shop and field personnel to ensure timely receipt and availability of materials. Assist with planning long-lead material purchases for major fabrication and construction projects. Cost Control & Purchasing Administration Monitor material pricing and identify opportunities for cost savings.
