Role Description The Purchasing Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Jersey City, NJ, responsible for overseeing procurement operations that support CDS’s academic and research activities. This position manages end-to-end purchasing processes, including vendor selection, quotation review, and issuance of purchase orders for goods and services such as equipment, supplies, and technology solutions. The role involves maintaining relationships with vendors, negotiating pricing and contract terms, and ensuring compliance with NYU and regulatory purchasing policies. The Purchasing Manager monitors budgets, tracks deliveries, reconciles invoices, and collaborates with faculty, researchers, and administrative staff to understand requirements and prioritize purchases. The role also includes continuous process improvement, maintaining accurate purchasing records, and contributing to strategic planning for procurement and resource allocation.
Qualifications
• Solid procurement and supply chain skills, including experience with purchasing processes, vendor management, and contract negotiation.
• Strong financial and analytical abilities, such as budget tracking, cost analysis, and use of spreadsheets or ERP/procurement systems.
• Organizational and project management skills to coordinate multiple requests, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with faculty, staff, and external vendors and to document purchasing activities.
• Knowledge of institutional or public-sector purchasing policies, compliance standards, and best practices in ethical procurement.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing quotes, contracts, invoices, and inventory records.
• Ability to work independently on-site and as part of a cross-functional administrative team supporting academic and research operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; relevant experience in higher education or research environments is a plus.
• Familiarity with technology and research-related purchasing (e.g., computing equipment, software licenses, lab or data infrastructure) is highly beneficial.
