Purchasing Manager Bani Halal Food Wholesale Location: Etobicoke, Ontario Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time Hours: 40 hours per week Wage: $24.00 per hour Language: English Work Location: In person Job Summary Bani Halal Food Wholesale is seeking a Purchasing Manager to manage purchasing for our food manufacturing and wholesale operations. The successful candidate will oversee suppliers, purchasing budgets and contracts, ensuring that products and supplies meet our quality standards and arrive on schedule. Hands-on training will be provided in the company’s products, purchasing systems, supplier requirements and operating procedures. Duties and Responsibilities - Direct purchasing operations for food products, ingredients, packaging, equipment and operating supplies, and evaluate purchasing performance; - Develop and implement purchasing policies, approval procedures and supplier selection standards; - Manage the purchasing budget, review expenditures and report cost differences and savings to management; - Source suppliers and assess quotations based on price, quality, availability and delivery reliability; - Negotiate purchase agreements, including pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules and return conditions; - Work with production and warehouse staff to define product specifications, packaging requirements, shelf life and suitable substitutes; - Plan purchases using sales forecasts, production schedules and stock reports to maintain supply and limit waste; - Confirm that purchased products meet company quality, food safety and applicable halal requirements; - Review and settle supplier claims involving shortages, damaged products, quality concerns and billing discrepancies; - Supervise purchasing staff, participate in hiring and oversee training and work assignments; - Review supplier performance and maintain accurate purchasing, contract and expenditure records. Qualifications - A university degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or a related field; - Experience, including assessing supply needs, comparing prices, coordinating with suppliers and arranging purchases. Experience performing these duties as part of a supervisory or management position will be considered; - Previous experience supervising employees, organizing daily work and providing staff training; - Practical knowledge of perishable inventory, stock rotation, receiving procedures, storage requirements and waste control; - Ability to use sales and inventory reports to plan orders and respond to changes in demand; - Experience checking invoices, resolving delivery discrepancies and monitoring product costs; - Sound judgment when assessing product quality, supplier reliability and value for money; - Strong communication, negotiation and organizational skills; - Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and computerized ordering or inventory systems; - Knowledge of food safety practices and halal food products is considered an asset. Work Conditions - On-site work in a food manufacturing and wholesale facility; - Regular coordination with suppliers, production staff and warehouse employees; - Access to refrigerated and frozen storage areas when required; - Responsibility for meeting purchasing deadlines and addressing supply interruptions.
