Purchasing Manager

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading and managing the company’s complete procurement and purchasing function, including domestic and international sourcing, import/export activities, negotiation, supplier management, purchasing execution, material planning, and inventory management. Managing the purchasing planning staff, this position will lead efforts utilizing effective procurement and demand planning practices to maintain strong vendor relationships, proactively respond to commodity market variation, negotiate competitive pricing and terms, and ensure optimal inventory levels that support manufacturing requirements. This role is also responsible for import/export coordination and compliance, including effective interaction with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and international suppliers. Additional responsibilities include achieving departmental goals related to cost reduction, quality and process improvement, supplier performance, and on-time delivery. Essential Functions: Maintain complete ownership of the procurement process from forecast and demand identification/management and material planning through delivery to include analysis, sourcing, requisition placement and approval, ordering, expediting delivery and returns. Direct responsibility for ensuring materials, components, assemblies and purchased products are available supporting production and customer requirements while maintaining appropriate inventory levels, controlling costs, improving supplier performance and minimizing supply-chain risk. Analyze component demand across all product families. Generate, implement appropriate reports to effectively monitor and proactively take action to re-order, expedite and/or de-expedite materials. Lead sourcing activities utilizing market-driven bidding and competitive analysis to achieve the best combination of price, quality, service, and on-time delivery while maintaining effective supplier relationships. Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and collaborate across teams and functional areas. Proactively communicate issues and challenges that may affect production or supported functional areas. Lead supplier evaluations and scorecard activities to maximize supplier performance, quality, delivery, and accountability. Lead international sourcing and import/export activities supporting purchasing efforts abroad. Manage and coordinate international shipments through direct supplier interaction as well as customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers. Ensure required import/export documentation is accurate and timely and support compliance with applicable customs, tariff, classification, and trade requirements. Lead team of 2-3 Buyer/planners and will be expected to remain actively involved in day-to-day purchasing, planning, negotiations and problem resolution. Develop and execute purchasing strategies that ensure continuity of supply while achieving competitive cost, quality, lead time and inventory objectives. Establish and maintain appropriate inventory parameters including safety stock, reorder points, order quantities, lead times etc., to ensure accuracy of planning settings for effective material replenishment. Skills & Abilities: Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in purchasing, materials management, supply or related field. Minimum 3-5 years of purchasing and materials management/planning experience in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing environment. Must have a solid understanding of production planning within an ERP/MRP system environment. Strong negotiation skills and demonstrated experience throughout the sourcing process, including the ability to lead RFI/RFP activities. Demonstrated domestic and international sourcing experience is required.
