We are currently seeking a Purchasing Buyer to join our Corporate Procurement Department at our Evansville, IN facility.

The Purchasing Buyer is responsible for managing procurement activities for key suppliers and maintaining adequate supply of raw materials for North American Operations in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management – Reduction in raw material inventory while ensuring material is onsite on time for production. Effectively manage forecasts and usage of material. Communicate with Sales force on forecast accuracy questions and concerns. Develop and implement order strategies to optimize inventory levels.
  • Cost Control - Implement sourcing strategies for key suppliers that ensure a secure supply of quality components and materials at the lowest possible cost. Track and report on pricing trends, reduce cost of inbound freight when applicable by directing suppliers to use preferred carriers and modes.
  • Process/Safety Improvements - Work with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to drive safe and compliant labeling, packaging, handling, storage, and transportation of purchased materials. Ensure changes are reviewed and accepted by key internal stakeholders prior to implementation. Where appropriate, ensure compliance with internal Management of Change procedures. Look for continuous improvement opportunities within existing work processes.
  • System Tools – Validate and maintain accuracy of system data. Utilize software tools, especially SAP, to ensure optimized output. Drive analysis and generate action plans in order to deliver superior business results.
  • Risk Management - Proactively identify financial and/or operational risks and opportunities to optimize total value and ensure compliance. Negotiate with vendors to maintain stock and reduce lead times while helping to minimize the risk of aging and obsolete inventory. Find backup sources for items through strengthening distribution network or facilitating alternative material approvals with R&D.  
  • Reporting - Generate and analyze reports on Time Delivery, Expedited Freight Costs, Consignment, Supplier Performance, Implemented Cost Savings, Inventory Management.
  • SCAR’s/Returns - Follow up on Supplier Corrective Action Requests and ensure all material returns are approved.  Work closely with the Quality Department to ensure MSCAR’s are communicated and managed as necessary.
  • Work Instructions - review associated work instructions and propose changes as needed.  Review changes with manager prior to implementation. Regularly attend company-wide training in areas such as Corporate Ethics, Safety, Environmental, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Business, Science or Supply Chain
  • 5+ years’ experience in scheduling, procurement, and/or inventory control
  • Any combination of equivalent education and experience as stated above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supply Chain related certifications preferred

Abilities/Competencies: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications – Microsoft Office products, SAP, etc.
  • Mastery of business operating processes, sourcing methodology, and the negotiating process.  Ability to understand costs and leverage the company with external suppliers.
  • Acts with very high level of integrity.
  • Proven record of delivering financial and other benefits to the company.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills; capable of dealing effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels both within and outside the Organization.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, detailed files and records, and comply with appropriate record keeping requirements.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize in an effective and timely manner; ability to meet critical deadlines, even with imperfect or incomplete information.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer and supplier information, company formulations and non-public product information, raw materials, suppliers, and all other non-public company information.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all company policies, including Quality/EHS procedures and policies and all applicable government and other trade compliance regulations.
