Job Overview The Purchasing role is responsible for supporting the purchasing and material requirements of the Machine Shop and overall manufacturing operation. This position ensures that raw materials, tooling, manufacturing supplies, outside services and other required items are purchased accurately and delivered when needed to support production schedules and the business. The Purchasing Associate works closely with Machine Shop Supervisors, Manufacturing, Engineering, Material Control, Quality, and Accounting to maintain appropriate inventory levels, obtain competitive pricing and ensure materials are available when required. Accuracy, organization, follow-through, communication, and attention to detail are critical to this position. Responsibilities Prepare and issue purchase orders for machine-shop materials, supplies, tooling, components, and outside services. Purchase materials based on production requirements, inventory levels, engineering requirements, and approved requisitions. Obtain and compare vendor pricing, lead times and availability Negotiate pricing, delivery dates, and other purchasing items when appropriate. Verify part numbers, quantities, specifications, pricing and required delivery dates before issuing purchase orders Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to confirm order status and delivery dates. Coordinate Bill of Material changes that result from engineering changes Regularly communicate with vendors regarding delayed, expedited or changed orders. Communicate supplier problems to production team Work closely with the Machine Shop to understand upcoming material, tooling and supply requirements. Monitor vendor performance related to quality, pricing, delivery and responsiveness. Follow company purchasing procedures and applicable ISO 9001 requirements. Requirements/Experiences of Purchasing Associate Associate degree in supply management, business administration, engineering or related discipline preferred At least 3 years' experience in purchasing for a metal fabrication environment desired Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong microsoft excel experience Working knowledge of machining and steel fabrication processes, components, functions and assembly of overhead cranes preferred or ability and willingness to research the answer Ability to read engineering drawings to determine amounts and types of materials that need to be ordered Work in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA safety rules and regulations Above average computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and Jobboss is a plus This role includes frequent work and interaction with manufacturing floor personnel to prepare staging of material Ability to safely lift 50 lbs on an occasional basis is necesssary Pay: Up to $31.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 – 45.0 per week Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Employee assistance program Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Referral program Vision insurance Application Question(s): Given your purchasing experience, what kind of parts have you purchased in the past?
