Purchasing Agent Intern

DSW Homes is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent Intern to join our Pre-Construction team in Friendswood, Texas. This position is designed as an internship with the goal of transitioning into a permanent, full-time role for the right candidate. The Purchasing Agent Intern will support the purchasing and pre-start functions of residential home construction. This role provides hands-on exposure to subcontractor management, purchasing processes, vendor setup, contract administration, and construction operations. The ideal candidate is organized, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in residential construction. DSW Homes is a residential homebuilder and nationwide disaster recovery contractor dedicated to rebuilding communities and delivering quality homes across the country. Responsibilities Purchasing & Vendor Support Assist with recruiting and onboarding new subcontractors and vendors. Gather and maintain subcontractor qualification documents, insurance certificates, licenses, and contracts. Help establish and maintain vendor and subcontractor relationships. Verify subcontractor compliance requirements are current and complete. Pre-Start & Construction Coordination Build and assemble Purchase Order (PO) packages for upcoming home starts. Review plans, options, and specifications for completeness prior to construction start. Support the Pre-Start team by preparing documentation needed for home releases. Coordinate with Construction, Estimating, Permitting, and Purchasing teams to ensure smooth project starts. Maintain accurate records and documentation within company systems. Administrative Support Assist with data entry, reporting, and file management. Communicate with subcontractors regarding scopes of work, pricing, and required documents. Track and update purchasing and vendor information. Support special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned. Qualifications Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field preferred. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities. Interest in residential construction and homebuilding. Preferred Qualifications Previous administrative, purchasing, construction, or project coordination experience. Familiarity with residential construction terminology and processes. Experience working with vendors, subcontractors, or customer service. What You'll Learn Residential construction purchasing processes. Subcontractor recruitment and management.
