Purchasing Agent

Job Summary This position is responsible for maintaining product availability, managing purchase orders, and building strong supplier relationships while balancing inventory investment with customer needs. The idea candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to work closely with sales, warehouse and accounting personnel. Responsibilities Purchase electrical products for stock replenishment, customer orders and special-order requirements. Reviewing inventory levels, sales history, and supplier lead times to determine purchasing needs. Create, review and maintain purchase orders in Epicor Eclipse, ensuring accurate pricing, quantities, terms and delivery dates. Monitor open purchase orders, expedite backorders, and communicate product availability and delivery changes to the sales team. Work with manufactures and manufacture representatives to obtain competitive pricing, favorable purchasing terms, and dependable delivery. Maintain accurate vendor, product cost, and purchasing information in Epicor Eclipse. Identify excess, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory and coordinate vendor returns or other inventory-reduction opportunities. Resolve pricing discrepancies, shipment shortages, damaged materials, and vendor credits in coordination with warehouse and accounting personnel. Support sales with sourcing, availability checks, and time-sensitive customer requirements. Identify opportunities to improve inventory performance, purchasing processes, and supplier service. Qualifications At least two years of purchasing or inventory management experience. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing customer needs. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to evaluate pricing terms, and inventory information. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and business software. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. Preferred Qualifications Purchasing experience in electrical distribution or a related wholesale-distribution business. Experience using Epicor Eclipse. Familiarity with electrical products, including wire and cable, conduit and fittings, wiring devices, lighting and distribution equipment. Understanding inventory replenishment, safety stock, lead times and inventory turns. Experience working with electrical manufactures and manufacturer representatives.
