Position Purpose: The purchasing agent procures all purchasing activity for the acquisition of materials, equipment, tools, vehicles, and supplies based on project or business need. This may involve bid analysis, reviewing and auditing equipment. Position Summary: The Purchasing Agent is responsible for leading and managing the company’s procurement activities for construction materials, equipment, tools, vehicles, rental equipment, parts, supplies, and related goods and services. This position plays a critical role in supporting project execution by ensuring materials and equipment are procured at competitive costs, meet quality and project requirements, and are delivered to the appropriate jobsite when needed. The Purchasing Agent partners closely with Project Managers, Operations, Superintendents, Estimating, Accounting, and other internal to anticipate project and operational needs, manage procurement schedules, evaluate and negotiate with suppliers, and mitigate potential supply chain or delivery issues. This role requires a seasoned procurement professional with strong construction industry knowledge, sound business judgment, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Procurement & Purchasing Lead and manage the procurement of construction materials, equipment, tools, vehicles, parts, supplies, rental equipment, and services in accordance with company policies, project requirements, and established budgets. Review purchasing requests and project requirements to determine appropriate sourcing strategies, quantities, specifications, delivery requirements, and timing. Solicit, evaluate, and analyze competitive bids and quotations to ensure the company receives the best overall value considering price, quality, availability, lead time, service, and vendor reliability. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, volume discounts, freight costs, delivery terms, and other commercial conditions to maximize cost savings and overall value. Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders (POs), ensuring accuracy, appropriate pricing, delivery requirements, terms and conditions, and supporting documentation. Monitor open purchase orders and proactively address pricing discrepancies, backorders, substitutions, delays, damaged materials, and other procurement issues. Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing histories, vendor information, and documentation to support purchasing decisions and future negotiations. Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, reduce costs, consolidate purchases, and increase procurement efficiencies.
