Summary We are looking for an experienced Purchaser to manage purchasing for our Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals operations. The successful candidate must have previous structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals industry experience and a strong understanding of steel materials, suppliers, pricing, availability and lead times. Responsibilities Source and purchase structural steel, miscellaneous metals, fasteners and other project materials (WF, tubing, channels, plates, angles, etc.). Obtain and compare supplier quotations for pricing, availability and lead times. Issue purchase orders and verify supplier confirmations. Negotiate pricing and delivery requirements with suppliers. Coordinate material requirements with Estimating, Project Management and Production. Review available shop inventory before placing material orders to maximize use of existing stock. Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records for steel and commonly stocked materials. Coordinate with the shop to verify inventory quantities and identify useable excess/remnant material. Track material orders and follow up on delivery commitments. Identify material shortages, long lead times and potential schedule risks early. Source alternate suppliers and material options when required. Maintain purchasing and material tracking records. Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships. Ensure materials are purchased in accordance with project specifications and required schedules. Qualifications Structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals industry experience is required (minimum of 5 years). Strong knowledge of structural steel materials, profiles and common industry products. Knowledge of steel suppliers and the local market. Strong purchasing, negotiation and supplier-management skills. Good understanding of material and inventory control. Excellent organization and follow-up skills. Comfortable working with Excel, Outlook and purchasing/inventory systems. Able to manage purchasing requirements across multiple projects in a fast-paced fabrication environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized and commercially minded, with a strong understanding of how purchasing and inventory management directly affect material costs, fabrication and project schedules. Pay: $78,000.00-$90,000.00 per year Work Location: In person
