Aztalan Bio, part of the family-owned ClonBio Group, operates one of Wisconsin’s largest ethanol facilities, processing up to 40 million bushels of locally grown corn each year. Our products—including ethanol, corn oil, and high-value feed ingredients.
We are currently investing hundreds of millions of dollars to transform Aztalan Bio into a next-generation biorefinery modeled after our sister facility, Pannonia Bio in Hungary—one of the most advanced grain biorefineries in the world.
The Purchaser plays a key role in supporting plant operations through the timely and cost-effective procurement of equipment, chemicals, spare parts, and essential supplies. This is a full-time position offering an hourly wage of $22–$29 per hour, based on experience, along with a wide range of benefits including PTO, sick time, a 401(k) with company match, and comprehensive health coverage. Benefits are eligible at the first of the month following the date of hire.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Management
- Research, evaluate, and source vendors for materials and operational supplies
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality and delivery standards
- Monitor market trends and supply availability to proactively manage shortages and price fluctuations
Inventory Control
- Maintain accurate inventory records to prevent shortages or overstocking
- Coordinate timely reordering before stock runs low
- Manage safety stock levels, reorder points, and lead times for critical materials
- Assist with warehouse support as needed, including receiving, stocking, and material issuance
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure reliable delivery and product quality
- Address supplier performance issues, including late deliveries, quality concerns, and invoicing discrepancies
- Evaluate supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary
Logistics & Shipping Coordination
- Schedule deliveries and track shipments to avoid production delays
- Ensure compliance with shipping regulations, plant requirements, and quality standards
Budget & Documentation
- Assist in preparing procurement budgets and monitor purchasing spend
- Maintain accurate purchase orders, invoices, and records for audit and reporting purposes
- Prepare regular reports on purchasing activity, inventory levels, and supplier performance
Collaboration & Project Support
- Partner with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to align purchasing priorities with production schedules
- Support plant upgrades, maintenance shutdowns, and special projects
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably in manufacturing, chemicals, or energy-related industries. Experience in an ethanol plant or similar process-based facility is a plus.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and purchasing software or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
- Knowledge of the ethanol production process and related materials is a plus.
- Ability to independently direct their own work.
- Ability to prioritize, focus, and distinguish between urgent and important.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- When in the plant environment, employee may be exposed to moderate to high noise.
- Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, flame-resistant clothing, and hearing protection will regularly be required (or may be required)
- Regularly required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and may occasionally be required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee will be required to do some walking/climbing stairs and occasional use of ladders.
