The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform semi-skilled moderately complex tasks in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city's pressurized irrigation (PI) pump stations and potable water distribution system. Work is performed under the close supervision of the pump and distribution operator supervisor with limited latitude for independent decision-making. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions, roadway traffic, related hazards, and confined spaces. Responsibilities Independently operates and adjusts PI pump stations to maintain system pressure and flow. Performs troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs tasks on pumps, valves, motors, and electrical components. Assists with small construction or projects for both PI and potable systems. Conducts seasonal startup and shutdown procedures, including flushing, and pressure testing. Assists with planning and execution of maintenance schedules for PI and potable system facilities. Collects potable water samples and prepares documentation for regulatory compliance. Investigates customer complaints related to PI service, water pressure, and system performance. Operates potable water system valves, hydrants, and appurtenances as directed. Provides guidance and instruction to pump and distribution operator 1 staff. Monitors operational data, maintains logs, inspection forms, and maintenance records. Performs routine SCADA monitoring and adjustments under supervision. Consistently keeps supervisor and relevant team members informed about work progress, current and potential issues, and proactively suggests new or improved solutions to address challenges. Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, reviews materials to remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas. Responds to questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner. Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. Respects the opinion of others and maintains a positive and professional working relationship with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders. Participates in mandatory standby rotation. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education, Training, and/or Experience Required: Graduation from High School or possession of a GED. Minimum of two (2) years' experience in irrigation, water distribution, or related utility work. Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements: Possession of a current and valid driver’s license. Possession of Class A CDL, No Restrictions with Tanker Endorsement. Possession of a Class II Water Distribution License. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and varying shift hours; and participate in an on-call rotation. Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug testing to include prescription medications. Subject to random DOT drug and alcohol testing. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Experience with pump station automation or SCADA systems. Class I Water Treatment License issued by the State of Idaho. Class III Water Distribution License issued by the State of Idaho.
