Public Works Fleet Mechanic
Village of StreamwoodThe Village of Streamwood will be accepting applications for the position of full-time Fleet Mechanic in our Public Works Department. Responsible For: Mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy-duty diesel and gasoline-powered equipment such as fire engines, police squad cars, large trucks, tractors, graders, rollers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and street sweepers. Work requires the use of independent judgment in matters of diagnosis and repair and initiative in the development of preventive maintenance schedules. Residency Requirement: Must live within the following boundaries within 12 months of hire: Those portions of the State of Illinois east of Route 39/51, north of US Route 30, and west of Lake Michigan. Salary Range: Starting salary for the position is $71,034-$88,316/yr. Employees will have an opportunity to advance through the merit-based pay plan and ear top salary over time (currently $107,518), plus excellent benefits including a pension plan, health, dental and life insurance, paid time off and holidays. Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent; minimum five (5) years of experience; valid Illinois driver’s license, and able to receive an Illinois CDL driver’s license within 180 days of employment; advanced mechanic knowledge and skills, both gas and diesel; up-to-date computer testing equipment knowledge; and must have own tools. ASE certifications or Emergency Vehicle Technician certification preferred or ability to obtain within twelve months of employment. Candidates must meet these qualifications to be eligible to take the written examination.
