Location: Primarily remote, with occasional attendance at our Thunder Bay office and project site visits across Northern OntarioJob type: Full-timeSalary: $70,000–$120,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications and demonstrated capabilities About Torkcon Torkcon Contracting Ltd. is a concrete and reinforcing steel contractor based in Thunder Bay, ON, serving the industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) sector and infrastructure projects throughout Northern Ontario. We are seeking a practical, organized Project Manager / Estimator to prepare competitive estimates, coordinate projects, support field supervisors and produce concrete construction and reinforcing steel shop drawings. Working directly with the company president, you will play an active role in developing our estimating, project management and drafting capabilities. Responsibilities Estimating Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to identify scope, requirements and risks. Complete quantity takeoffs for formwork, concrete and reinforcing steel. Prepare estimates covering labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, travel and remote project logistics. Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations. Prepare proposals with clear scopes, inclusions and exclusions. Account for overtime, winter conditions, construction sequencing and labour productivity. Project Management and Field Support Support field supervisors with project planning, drawing interpretation, material coordination, scheduling and resolving site issues. Coordinate procurement, deliveries, subcontractors and upcoming work. Work with field supervisors to track progress, labour hours, productivity and project costs. Prepare RFIs, change orders, extra work pricing and supporting documentation. Communicate with general contractors, consultants, suppliers and field crews. Support progress billing, cost forecasting and project closeout. Attend office meetings and visit project sites as required. Drafting and Reinforcing Detailing Prepare concrete layout drawings, sections and construction details based on approved structural designs. Prepare reinforcing steel shop drawings, placement drawings, bar lists and bending schedules. Coordinate drawing submissions with structural consultants and reinforcing suppliers. Identify drawing conflicts and constructability concerns and assist with RFIs. Qualifications Relevant experience in construction estimating, project management or coordination, preferably involving concrete, formwork, and reinforcing steel. Ability to read structural drawings and specifications and prepare accurate takeoffs. Practical understanding of construction methods, labour production rates and job costing. Experience preparing construction drawings or reinforcing details. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with Bluebeam, PlanSwift or similar takeoff software. Strong organization, communication and follow-through. Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a remote environment. Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to Northern Ontario project sites. A diploma or degree in civil or structural engineering, engineering technology, construction management or a related field is an asset. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered. Experience with Revit, reinforcing detailing software, union labour, remote projects and winter concrete construction is an asset.
