Project Manager

About the Role Bornea Dynamics is seeking a Project Manager to lead defence research and development programs from our facility in Beamsville, Ontario. The Project Manager will be responsible for the execution of advanced R&D projects involving the development, integration and demonstration of emerging defence technologies. Projects may involve sensing, electronic warfare, communications, autonomy, embedded systems, RF systems, C5ISR, unmanned systems and other defence technologies. The successful candidate will manage projects from contract award and initial requirements definition through research, prototyping, integration, trials, demonstrations and final delivery. This is a hands-on role requiring close interaction with engineers, technical leads, customers, subcontractors and company leadership. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing projects where technical uncertainty is inherent, requirements may evolve and development schedules are driven by demonstrations, trials and operational objectives. Responsibilities The Project Manager will: Plan and manage defence R&D projects from proposal drafting through research, prototype development, trials, demonstration and project closeout. Develop and maintain project schedules, work breakdown structures, budgets, resource plans, risk registers and forecasts. Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across RF, electronics, embedded systems, software, mechanical engineering, machine learning, autonomy and systems engineering. Translate contractual statements of work and customer requirements into executable project plans and work packages. Track contractual deliverables, technical milestones, dependencies, actions, risks and project performance. Coordinate prototype design, procurement, manufacturing, integration and testing. Plan and coordinate laboratory testing, field trials, demonstrations and customer acceptance activities. Manage suppliers, subcontractors and external test facilities. Monitor project expenditure, labour utilization, procurement commitments and estimate-to-complete. Identify technical, schedule and commercial risks and establish mitigation and recovery plans with technical leads. Manage project scope and change control, including assessment of cost and schedule impacts. Coordinate customer meetings, progress reviews and technical demonstrations. Prepare progress reports, presentations, meeting materials and contractual deliverables. Maintain appropriate project documentation, decision records and configuration control. Coordinate project activities involving controlled information, export-controlled technology or customer security requirements where applicable. Support proposal preparation, project estimating and planning for new and follow-on defence programs. Support continuous improvement of Bornea's project management and R&D delivery processes. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: A bachelor's degree in engineering, science, project management or another relevant technical discipline. 5+ years of experience managing engineering, defence, technology development or complex R&D projects. Demonstrated experience managing project schedules, budgets, risks, resources and deliverables. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous technical activities. Experience working directly with customers, suppliers and subcontractors. The ability to operate effectively in development programs involving technical uncertainty and changing priorities. The ability to understand complex technical information sufficiently to identify project dependencies, risks and implications.
