Program Controls / Project Planner
ConfidentialAbout K1 Industries For the first time in decades, power demand growth in the US has jumped 5x, driving multi-year lead times for critical power infrastructure. K1 builds and deploys modular gas turbine power packages at scale, now. The role K1 is hiring a Program Controls / Project Planner to maintain the integrated schedule that connects design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, site readiness, and deployment. Working under the direction of the Head of Programs, you will turn inputs from teams across K1 into a clear, current view of milestones, dependencies, and delivery risks. We need someone who can get beyond collecting status updates: understand how work fits together, challenge unsupported dates, and identify what needs to happen next to keep the program moving. You will maintain the schedule and change records, make downstream impacts visible, and give the Head of Programs and the workstream owners reliable information for decisions and follow-through. What the role owns Integrated program schedule: Build and maintain the design-to-deployment schedule across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, test, construction, commissioning, and delivery. Connect workstream plans through clear dependencies, milestones, and accountable owners. Planning and schedule updates: Work with team leads to define activities, durations, handoffs, and completion criteria. Establish a regular update cadence and verify progress against actual deliverables. Keep near-term work detailed and longer-term assumptions visible. Critical path and delivery risks: Identify the activities and dependencies driving key milestones. Track schedule float, constraints, and emerging delays, and flag their downstream impact early. Work with owners to develop recovery options for review by the Head of Programs. Change tracking: Maintain a record of proposed and approved changes to scope, sequencing, and milestone dates. Document the reason, owner, affected workstreams, schedule impact, and decision status. Update the schedule to reflect approved changes while preserving the baseline and decision history. Cross-functional coordination: Surface gaps between team plans, including design release dates, supplier deliveries, manufacturing readiness, test availability, and site completion. Track handoff requirements and unresolved dependencies so teams can act before work is blocked. Look-ahead planning and action tracking: Prepare practical near-term plans that show upcoming work, prerequisites, and decisions needed. Maintain action and constraint logs with clear owners and due dates, and follow up on overdue items. Program reporting: Provide concise reporting on milestone status, baseline variance, critical-path changes, and decisions required. Distinguish confirmed progress from estimates and communicate uncertainty clearly. Planning discipline and systems: Maintain consistent schedule structure, naming, and reporting practices. Improve planning tools and workflows as K1 grows, keeping information useful and straightforward for the teams supplying it. Who does well here Has built and maintained integrated schedules for hardware development, manufacturing, energy, construction, or similarly complex programs Understands dependency logic, critical-path analysis, baselines, float, and schedule variance Can connect engineering work to procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning Is proficient with scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or an equivalent tool, and can turn schedule data into clear reports Asks specific questions, tests assumptions, and can distinguish a credible completion date from an unsupported estimate Has maintained change logs and can explain how a scope or sequencing change affects downstream milestones Coordinates effectively across technical teams and follows up persistently without relying on direct authority Is comfortable planning with incomplete information and updating assumptions as designs and…
